The thread that was about astrology
I have to delete a lot of this thread because although I was trying to "get away with it" by telling myself the way I'm doing it isn't sin, it's been coming back to bite me as the sin it is. So it has to go. Sorry to anyone who got at all involved in it though I don't think anyone really did.

Astrology is a perfect pastime for weak minds divorced from reality and living in fantasy.

My teenage neighbour got a job as an intern on a national newspaper. On her first day she was given the job of writing the astrology page.

That's all you need to know about astrology.

Faith writes:

No matter how silly astrology may be, it's not THAT silly.

If it was just silly, it would be ok. But like religion, lots of people take it seriously.

The newspaper column just gives you your "sun sign," llke AZ's Pisces, which means "sun in Pisces,"

They then tell you that because Pisces is in the ascendent it's a great day to make a new relationship, get a job and tidy your knicker drawer.

and a real astrologer

Ah, you mean a real fraudster...

would make more of that than someone who knows nothing about it at all. But the websites I link do a whole birth chart which includes the positions of ALL the planets in the solar system, sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars etc etc etc

Assuming they're using real data for that and not just making it up like my neighbour, we call those people astronomers

and their positions against the backdrop of the Zodiac at a particular time and place. And they assign meanings to all the relationships between all the planets and other elements in the chart. It's objective information to that extent, no matter what you think of the meanings they attach to that information. Try it, it's fun.

What's really hilarious about all this - apart from the utter drivel of imagined 'meaning' - is that when astrology was dreamed up there was no knowledge of star and constellation distances. They just look like they're patterns in the sky. The actual stars in zodiac constellations are not related to each other at all; they can be millions of light years apart.

About how astrology is really about the positions of the real planets.

No matter how silly astrology may be, it's not THAT silly.

Yes it is THAT silly. It's preposterous.

But that's what makes it fun.

In humans it's good to be knowingly silly and harmlessly hilarious when it can be shared with fun.

I don't recall a Schyster constellation, however. Who's house is that?

My chart on the internet? Let the government have access to my most compelling personality traits? Open myself up to the manipulations of Them?

No thank you.

Pisces are suspicious.
And extraordinarily handsome.

Did you ever think what I was thinking? (When you were young)
This song (in a remixed form) played all of the time on the radio in the 1980's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhbxI5eVnM4

I also saw the (1979?) movie (many times during the 80s and 90s), though I forget everything but the song (I seem to remember it was set in the post "race riots" period).I always thought about "open borders" when I heard the repeated "mutual understanding" words, as well as other parts.

Now, here is the ironic part:

Ronald Reagan also used the words "mutual understanding" when he debated Bush for the GOP nomination in 1980. He was talking specifically about how we should "open the border both ways" with Mexico. Now, after around 1987 (if I did not know slightly earlier), I knew that President Reagan was for "open borders", but I never knew about nor did I see his Texas Republican Primary debate with Bush.

Reagan got what 95% of Republicans and Democrats surely did not get.

I was always fond of saying "hippy is short for hypocrite", because I knew some of the 1969 Woodstock jokers personally. I know just how racist the "peace and love" rednecks were and (probably STILL) are.

Look at the Harvard-Harris 2018 polls.

Those 65 year's and older are about 88%+ against open borders.

The 50 to 64 age group is 84% opposed.

(Under 50-year's-old Americans are 66% opposed, but the younger you go, the closer to 50-50 you get)

Ronald Reagan remains our best President, because he "got it".

That is my opinion and I am entitled to it.

EDIT MESSAGE: Forgot to mention that the Reagan family had some fans of astrology from the top (the President and Nancy themselves).

Hey, a stream of consciousness rant.

That's cool in the commune. No problems for this old hypocrite.

You seem to think this astrology stuff is somehow worth such a field of study as to differentiate real thinking from just fun?

We are talking gravitational influences. At the moment of your birth your mom and the nurse had trillions of times stronger gravitational influence on you than Jupiter. And how does that near non-existent force tie to personality traits exhibited decades later?

The only Pisces I've ever known at all is the most annoying person in my llle

Yeah, we ornery.
But we cute.
