Hyroglyphx in Message 50 writes: EvC has basically always been a huge echo chamber and circle jerk for left-leaning ideologues certain of their righteousness. The boot-licking, ass-kissing, lap dogs around here (of which there are many) have license to spew whatever invective they please while you seem to have a different set of rules. Moving on:
Whatever. You're an outsider, as am I. It is what it is. So now you're being honest with yourself that you're no moderate? Your avatar is false, too. It's incomprehensible that you don't admit being a fellow traveler with the alt-right and Trump, given that your views so closely align with theirs. But you and Faith could have a wonderful discussion. Premise: Trump is a wonderful president. I wonder if you and Faith agree on immigration. I'm reading Empty Planet: The Shock of Global Population Decline right now. One of the points it makes is that most countries of the western world have a fertility rate below replacement rate, which means their populations are decreasing. Replacement rate is 2.1, and we're at 1.8. Japan's is at 1.44, and their population has already started to decline. We and western Europe will soon follow them. Eastern Europe's population decline has already begun. Bulgaria has declined from 9 million in 1985 to 7 million today. Fertility rates decline as women's rights and education increase, and the answer is immigration, something the right seems firmly against. Despite the opposition the U.S. accepts about a million immigrants per year, but if we don't want to have a declining population, if we don't want to be hollowed out from the inside, then that number needs to rise to about three million per year. --Percy

Faith writes: Oh aren't you cleverly devious. Or course you're right, we couldn't be right, oh no, that's the EvC party line. Of course you're right. Reminds me of the 1964 Barry Goldwater slogan, "In your heart you know he's right," to which the Democrats replied, "In your heart you know he's very right." --Percy

Faith writes: I wonder why I doubt this report. You doubt most true things that don't comport with your worldview. In this case you can watch it happening. This one is edited down to just the key portions:
This one is an MSNBC news report. At one point there's video of the audience of Trump supporters shouting "Q&A, Q&A" in unison. Apparently the cancelling of the Q&A session was not popular:

Faith writes: Why should I believe they are Trump supporters. What's the evidence? The reporters said that's who predominantly made up the audience, and who else would be interested in Donald Trump Jr. talking about his book?
Doesn't sound like a conservative crowd to me. It sounds like a crowd upset that the Q&A portion had been cancelled. --Percy

Faith writes: And I should trust the Guardian, why? Fox News evidently trusted the Guardian enough that they passed its reporting on to their own readers. What criteria are you applying to determine the trustworthiness of a source, besides whether or not it pleases you?
Sorry this is just too fishy. Are you unaware of all the leftist infiltrations of conservative events over the last few years? Pretty much.
Oh gosh, I guess we aren't allowed to talk about all that at EvC are we? Nope, can't use the word "Leftist" or anything that identifies the Left as the evil force it is in today's world. Nope. I think just engaging in discussion instead of excoriation would be nice. --Percy

I had to look that word up. Do we tend to pick at each others skin? The meaning of excoriation in this context is "to severely criticize." I was expressing my preference for an on-topic discussion over off-topic and sarcastic excoriation about moderation. A proclivity for this type of diversion, sometimes directed at individuals, sometimes at everyone, will of course bring one into conflict with board moderation, but that's not the topic of this thread. Faith never really responded to any of the substance of my Message 86, merely questioning the trustworthiness of The Guardian. Whatever criteria she's applying in determining what news sources to trust, she's not saying. --Percy

but what I heard
No one cares what you "heard". Provide data and sources. What you heard is irrelevant and when what you herd is looked at it is usually shown to be incorrect or extremely misleading. So how about providing actual figures and sources? There are different ways of looking at the numbers, but I think the total cost of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and miscellaneous other welfare programs represents about 48% of government spending. Here's a chart I found at US Government Entitlement Spending History with Charts - a www.usgovernmentspending.com briefing:

Thugpreacha writes: Are you suggesting that everyone who has changed due to finding salvation was delusional? All of them? If you think that everyone who believed in Odin and Thor was delusional then yes, all of them.
Also, have you not seen the influence of Christianity in positively effecting cultural morality? I've seen that atheists commit crimes at a lower rate than Christians. Does that count?
Granted we have had our Andrew Jacksons and Christian nationalism as well... I'm talking about positive changes. Sure, let's just consider the positive stuff and skip the negative stuff.
Surely the collective voice of changed lives is more compelling than confirmation that they all drank the kool-aid. What is the ratio of changed lives for the better to changed lives for the worse? --Percy

Faith writes: Why should I believe they are Trump supporters. What's the evidence? The chants of "USA, USA" and other Trump slogans at the beginning made clear it was a strongly predominant Trump crowd, and it was the same crowd shouting "Q&A, Q&A" when Trump Jr. left the stage. The campus newspaper reporter said there was only one vocal anti-Trump supporter, and she was shown wearing a hijab in one of the videos. --Percy

Faith writes: What you aren't getting is that infiltrators are going to act like Trump supporters so they can provide the fake news of shouting him off the stage. You live in an active fantasy world.
I simply don't know of any actual Trump supporters who would have done that to Trump Jr. Since you hardly know anyone, especially in that age group, this is an empty assertion.
But perhaps you have better evidence. You can't compare your evidence to mine because you've provided no evidence. All you've provided is denial and false bluster. I provided two videos. Here's another video of conservative Meghan McCain taking on Donald Trump Jr. on The View:
Being a Trump supporter doesn't mean supporting everything Trump or everyone in his family does. --Percy

I'm not going to listen to this but did want to comment on the Unitarian Universalist religion. It is a bastard religion of no spiritual value formed by the merger of the Unitarians with the Universalists. The merger destroyed Unitarianism as Universalist non-religious dogma took over. A few independent Unitarian churches do remain. --Percy
