Dosey Doe, I got my 2nd dose!
My 1st dose was a 2 hour wait but today, 5 minutes for the shot and paperwork then 15 minute safety wait and I was done. Getting the vaccine was the closest contact my wife and I have had with other people since February 2020.
Now my understanding is, the Gates microchips i received will reconstruct my eyes so that I no longer need to use telescopes or microscopes to see distant subjects or ultra small subjects. Not only that, I can also stream Pink Floyd right in to my auditory nerves!
After a year+ of pandemic we can look back (and forward) and say 2020 and 2021 were the most disastrous years in human history and certainly in American history. America has been telling themselves how wonderful and superior our system is but in 2020 our wonderful government, under Trump, clearly demonstrated that they could not organize, lead or govern. 2020 showed us just how completely the republicans in the Whitehouse and Congress since 1981 have fucked up our government's ability to respond to any crisis.
I have a dream of the next pandemic except this virus has a 3 week incubation and is 95% lethal after a month long illness. This virus could be stopped with masks, but Trump voters are afraid of masks, and then I wake up sweating.
And on top of the fucking pandemic lots of other bad shit happened in the last 15 months too, but I'm cautiously optimistic that I will be able to resume my projects this spring and summer. I will mourn all those we have lost...

Re: The COVID Genocide Deserves a Name
Oh how I would love for the name Trump Virus, spoken with a hard edge of derision, to become the name used, but, the world has already anointed a name, covid or covid-19. The covid pandemic of 2020
I agree that we're stuck with the name. In my opinion Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis and a number of other republican governors should all be tried for premeditated aggravated mass murder. They should all be fed human shit until they die.

Re: How Effective Are the Vaccines?
Home - Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center
I have been using the Johns Hopkins site. It has lots of data including hospitalization by county. I'm using it to help plan a road trip to Chicago and northern Wisconsin starting this weekend. Camping and avoiding people most of the way. Our friends in Chicago are tested multiple times a week, and are vaccinated and wear masks on campus. Our main worry is the possibility of needing emergency medical care with many hospitals at capacity, but that same problem is happening here at home too.
The 4th wave of the Covid Intelligence Test is in full swing with the 5th, 6th, and 7th tests waiting in the wings.

According to today's Oregon Health Authority data, statewide we are down to 7% of staffed adult ICU beds available and 9% staffed non-ICU beds available. We never seem to run out of stupid people, no matter how hard they try.

Re: Oh Crap...
If a new wave is coming that the vaccines don't protect against , this time we are not back to ground zero.
We have almost 2 years practicing what can keep us uninfected. Masks and other personal protective equipment were in short supply 2 years ago for the general population as well as healthcare workers.
We can develop new vaccines in just a few months now and we have gotten way better at distributing them and a lot of other essential supplies, too.
Not getting infected is the key, because hospital systems and staff are still overwhelmed and under staffed during each wave.
Eventually, you would think that risky behavior with regard to Covid will start to show measurable Darwinian selection against the demographics that are not protecting themselves.

Re: Oh Crap...
This time around, anti-mask idiots are plentiful.
Yep, I'm not surprised after watching the American Shit Show for the past few years, but I'm still baffled at how wide spread this odd behavior pattern is. Apparently, 50% of American adults have a rabid fear of face masks and their response has been hysterical, and their elected representatives have an hysterical fear of that hysteria.
My wife orders all our groceries online and picks them up curbside and says she never wants to change back. I have made some quick in and out shopping for 1 or 2 items and in the grocery store and home improvement stores and every person was masked.
The schools here are all mask mandated and my granddaughter says her school her high school is 100% compliant.
I keep thinking what works and what does not will be glaringly obvious to even the most obtuse, but it is glaringly obvious that I am wrong.

Re: Red Counties Have Far Higher Covid Death Rates
It just increases your likelihood of death by about three times.
I find it fascinating how many scientific studies this virus and the pandemic have generated.
There seem to be significant numbers of patients, with symptoms from serious down to mild, who have serious damage to various organs including heart, lungs, brain, and the rest of the nervous system.
I read a few weeks ago that some of the damage to nasal tissue causing loss of smell, heals in some patients, but the connections between sensory cells and nerves may get scrambled, so some scent molecules trigger the wrong smell. Shuddering!
I may be wrong but it seems like this is the most complex disease that humans have encountered in our historical times.

We will only be saved if a very contagious variant (much more contagious so that it displaces all previous) comes along that is also very mild.
Or much more lethal. Can you imagine a death rate of 40%?
I wonder if the U.S. will pass 1 million deaths from Covid in 2022?

Watching the news this morning showing people all upset because the cruise line didn't notify the passengers how many Covid cases there were onboard. And a bunch of ports wouldn't let them dock.
Gosh, who could have anticipated that? I feel so much sympathy...oh wait, no I don't.

Right, you're going with the experimental Covid virus that has killed millions and disabled millions more. Wise decision.

Yep! We are doing pretty much exactly the same thing. I'm really glad I work on my own and can do almost everything digitally.
My wife has perfected online shopping and pickup and says she never wants to go back to in-store shopping.
We are all lucky for the frontline workers who are risking their lives to keep our country functioning, despite irresponsible assholes like Porky!
