Ok, I'll update the list with homophobia and anti-abortion. Let me know if you change your mind.

Tangle:Tangle still has difficulty staying on topic. Why does Tangle think that we are all saved because of the covid vaccine? Maybe that will get Tangle back on topic, but I doubt it.

Sorry, missed a couple; was the elections stolen? What's your opinion of Fox News?

Tangle:Tangle can't stay on the topic he started. Isn't he happy with this subject of the covid vaccine? Doesn't Tangle want to explain to us why we are all saved?

Kleinman:Tangle still can't stay on topic. He can't explain why we are all saved because of the covid vaccine. Maybe Tangle meant to say we are 90% saved? It seems like Tangle doesn't want to discuss the topic that he started. He would rather discuss any topic but this one. Why doesn't he start a discussion on any one of the subjects he is interested in but unrelated to the covid vaccine? He could respond to the post I made with links and quotes from the CDC on the effects of comorbidities and covid and influenza, but he isn't interested. Instead, Tangle makes posts unrelated to the topic under discussion to pass the time. Try harder Tangle, perhaps you can stay on topic, but I doubt it.

Ok, I'll put you down as someone who refuse to deny that he's Fox News fan that believes that the election was stolen. I'm happy to correct that if you'd like to comment further.

Tangle:How many posts can Tangle make that are not on topic for a thread that he has started? Won't you explain how we are saved by the covid vaccine? Shouldn't you have said that we are 90% saved? Does the covid vaccine save us from your off-topic comments?

I have now taken on the moderation role for this thread.
The goal for discussion threads like this one is constructive discussion accomplished by presenting and discussing facts and information, but discussions should be natural and include fun and seriousness, facts and fancy, as well as off-topic diversions (but not too far). We have a slim moderator staff right now, but what remains attempts to assist in those threads most likely to run off the rails. To mix my metaphors, I think this thread resembles a soccer match where a rugby player has wandered onto the field and begun tackling players and running with the ball. With no ref present the soccer players would quickly become pretty upset, justifiably so. The obvious solution is for the rugby player to go find a rugby match. But if the rugby player is determined to play soccer then he should be given every opportunity to do so, measured by how well he follows the rules and traditions of soccer. Leaving the metaphor behind, the measure of how well anyone is participating in a thread will be the character and nature of posts and how well they adhere to the Forum Guidelines and the requests of moderators. For a start I'm going to place Kleinman on a one-post-per-day limit, and should he decide to accept that and, in effect, try to play soccer, and if that's reflected in his posts, then the limit will gradual increase. If not then eventual suspension will result. These aren't the only moderator tools at my disposal and I may decide to employ others. I will not be coaching Kleinman. He'll have to decide for himself whether he wants to make the effort to figure things out. Please welcome Kleinman aboard and allow him a fresh start. While my initial focus is on Kleinman, I'll be paying attention to all participation in this thread. Complaints shouldn't be made in this thread but should be taken to the Report Discussion Problems Here 4.0 thread.

Percy:You boys are playing the wrong game. You come to a softball game with a wiffle ball bat and wonder why you can't hit a softball more than a couple of feet. Perhaps you think it is a problem with lebensraum? Since you have such a good imagination, imagine what would happen if you went up against somebody playing hardball while you are still playing wiffle ball. Since you and your minions want to play wiffle ball in peace, I don't want to deprive all of you of your moment of peace. It won't last long. Oh, one last thing, I want to thank you for your invitation email you sent me several months ago. You even told me which thread you wanted me to post. It saved me a lot of time in determining which wiffle ball game to play in. I am sorry though that I brought softball gear when you were playing wiffle ball.

You've elected to keep your email private. Since no one knows your email address, no one can send you email, including me. I did initiate a bulk email from the board's software last September 17th to members who have elected to receive discussion board email, which includes you, but that email was not addressed to anyone in particular. It was just a brief update on several then recent threads. There was no invitation to post to them, and it didn't mention this thread. Here's what it said:

Are you lying again or just that delusional? You think you got an invite? Lol. What a maroon. A real embezzle.

It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

I offered him a free restart and he replied with a message showing he understood that what he'd done was so wrong that he could actually commit one last act of damage by casting blame for his visit on whoever sent some imaginary invitation. He seems to be gone, so I'm going to resume normal participation.

I am very impressed with how you handled him. You fed him a lot of rope to hang himself and he did.

The March, 2023, issue of Scientific American included an article on The Brain and Long Covid. I know at least one person with long covid (3 years and running) and possibly one other (after a couple months he still can't get back on the tennis court, but it's too early to be sure this is long covid).
According to the article about 16 million US adults are affected by long covid. Symptoms include pain, extreme fatigue and brain fog. Around 2 to 4 million have been severely enough affected to be forced out of work. Around 20% of people who come down with covid go on to develop long covid symptoms, sometimes for extended periods of time. Increasingly long covid is being recognized as a neurological disease, that some kind of nerve dysfunction is involved, often related to the autonomic nervous system. Long covid is a potentially debilitating syndrome, and everyone should be doing all they can to avoid catching covid, both for themselves and for all those around them. That means tailoring one's behavior to circumstances. Get vaccinated, get your boosters, and when in an area of higher case rates consider using additional approaches such as isolation and masking. There's no such thing as 100% protection, but these actions to reduce the likelihood and severity of covid, and thereby of long covid. Covid isn't done with us, and so we shouldn't be done with covid, either. Inflammation of the nervous system is suspected of playing a significant role, including by immune cells called microphages, but scientists are only beginning to narrow in on causes. Apparently the virus can linger in the brain for months, long after the infection is deemed over. My friend with long covid caught it in April of 2020, long before the vaccine, but he's averse to doctors and refused vaccination. He was making a slow comeback last year when he caught covid again, and he now spends most of his time on the coach. My other friend with possible long covid announced last year that he had a robust immune system and didn't need vaccines. After catching covid a few months ago he still hasn't resumed normal activities. --Percy
