OK OK...I did come back. Not that anyone really cares and I will confess from the start that the things I accuse jar of, I too struggle with---namely a big ego.

I really do plan on spending less time here at EvC due to the fact that I and a friend whom I have known for 38 years (yes a real friend that lives here...i met him when he was 14 and I was 23 at a restaurant we both worked at...now he is 52 and I am 61.) and myself are planning to start a podcast. Though he was a graphic designer and supervisor for 20 some odd years and knows how to do graphic design very well, he knew little about creating websites or podcasts as did (do) I, so this is a learning experience and labor of love for both of us. His wife thinks he is simply playing around and not doing anything productive or useful...which I can fully understand. I want to really spend some time developing the two pages that we now have.
Webpage
Facebook Page

Im not trying to spam our forum with my stuff, and wont mention it again except in this topic. Since I wont be around here as much and will only post when absolutely necessary (Im addicted to EvC, just as Faith was) I want anyone here who knows me to drop in to my pages now and then and honestly critique the videos and posts which I put.

To be honest, I care about each member here whom I have interacted with and gotten to know. I don't plan on becoming inactive, but I think I need to focus more on my own projects and less on trying to make EvC my personal soapbox.

I may have lashed out and called the lot of you a "bunch of educated elitists who do not know God" but who am I to think I can change you...anymore than you can change me. To anyone who critiques me---I appreciate and need the feedback. I feel that I can reach more people who are open to knowing God and to that end I need to grow as a person and not do the things I sometimes accuse others of doing. Oh and Vimesey I saw your post and will comment here:

vimsey,in the Trump Presidency Thread writes:

The greatest danger isn't now - it's over the coming years. When this lot votes in your next populist, you know damn well the lessons he will have learned. His first Presidency will be spent rigging all future elections in his favor "to prevent those damned commie cheats rigging the elections again." And even when he's found out, this lot will still buy the lies and back him.

We need to reach out to the more intelligent of the deluded (with most of them, there's obviously no hope) and get them to understand that just because a populist or the Internet tells you something is real, it doesn't mean it is.

If a Trump gets in again, he will know what he has to do to destroy democracy in the States, and he will do it if he has enough of the deluded bowing to his will.

We haven't won the war - it's only just beginning.

In my and Peps Blog/Podcast, I plan on steering clear of politics by and large. No matter which way you go, nearly half of the populace will disagree with you!

What you say is quite true, vimesey. jar once said that the only cure is education...not so much just for the future generations but for their parents and grandparents as well. I fear it will not happen. I do agree, however, that in order for democracy to truly work, we do need to discriminate (and by that I mean compare and contrast several sources of information (infotainment) as well as reading a wider variety of books and literature.

vimesey writes:

We need to reach out to the more intelligent of the deluded (with most of them, there's obviously no hope)

Its funny, but I think there are elements on both extremes within the ideological spectrum...intelligent people whom the other side believes to be delusional. The Unifire Blog/Podcast will focus on encouraging others and offering advice and (hopefully) wisdom...to the limited degree that I and Pep can provide. We do not claim to be licensed counselors nor Ordained Ministers in any way, shape or form.

Anyway...to all of you...this is my explanation and apology for blowing up the other day. I will be building my podcasts and webpage and will not clutter up EvC with all of my ramblings but will continue to lurk as AdminPhat and will still be reading your stuff. God Bless you all and May God continue to bless EvC as a community.

it's not preaching
They really aren't preaching but simply marketing. It's no different than the stream of "reviews" where folk talk about the lunch they just ate or where they bought their new shoes or the latest smart phone. It shows in almost all advertising these days; absolutely no content or value or worth just imaginary fantasy.

Re: it's not preaching
I might point out that jar markets himself and his folksy Texas charm coupled with his well developed ego here at our forum. Don't let him fool you into painting me in a box containing "those willfully ignorant charismatics".

I might also add that my business partner Pep is not your stereotypical religious nut. He is quite intuitive and learned a lot of his spirituality and philosophy from his Mother who was and is a Saint. She was one of the most helpful and caring humanists that you would ever meet and if I can get him to join here for even a minute he will smash any myths you may have about who *we* are. But of course you don't know him...you only know me.

"Those" Fundy Believers
Funny how these fundie believers prefer to preach to themselves isn't it? It would bore me to death.
I would never preach to you unless we were on the lake fishing and struck up a conversation. You at that point would either tell me to keep my beliefs to myself as would our feisty Theodoric(where has he been, anyway?) or you would attempt to persuade me to leave the bronze age myths and the bells and smells behind me.

O Tangled One, perhaps someday we may see eye to eye but if we don't I'll not spend time preaching to you. There are fish to catch.

And you still don't see just how pitiful and degrading statements like that sound!

But that is a typical and common example of the total inability of so much of Christianity to think about what they market.

Fish do not desire to get caught.

Caught fish are not persuaded.

Caught fish are simply fodder to be consumed and the remains discarded or used as fertilizer.

Caught fish are used as long as they are profitable but thrown away once no longer of use or worth.

It is a near perfect synopsis of so much of both modern and historic Evangelical Christianity.

Re: "Those" Fundy Believers
First of all, from what I said to Tangle, how did you assume the metaphor? At any rate it does not matter, for it gives you and I an opportunity to discuss scripture.

You claim to have read the Bible as so few of "those fundies" do. So explain thee fish metaphor in the following passage:

Mark 1:14-28 NIV writes:

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.

19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, 24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!"

25 "Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!" 26 The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.

27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching-and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.

Re: "Those" Fundy Believers
LOL

I don't explain them Phat; I acknowledge that the Bible says what is actually written.

That does not change anything I said. The Evangelicals and much of historical Christianity DID see the goal similar to the fisherman metaphor (also found in Luke by the way). Christianity expanded and flourished just as a person with a net; Christians were netted whether they liked it or not often by violence or by economic and political persuasion. Christianity was a Political and Economic and Military force; it was command and control.

But it would be nice to think Christians (despite the evidence found in todays CCoI) had matured beyond thinking there goal was to net new Christians.

The Grand Socialist Democratic Experiment
The Evangelicals and much of historical Christianity DID see the goal similar to the fisherman metaphor (also found in Luke by the way). Christianity expanded and flourished just as a person with a net; Christians were netted whether they liked it or not often by violence or by economic and political persuasion. Christianity was a Political and Economic and Military force; it was command and control.

But it would be nice to think Christians (despite the evidence found in today's CCoI) had matured beyond thinking there goal was to net new Christians.

We know that the human motive has always been command and control. The God I believe in surely commands (and rules) yet never tries to control anybody.
They are free to become relativistic thinkers. Allah and Loki and rabbit and Vishnu and the good ole spaghetti monster are equally welcome at the table.

And if the goal is not to net new Christians, what would you imagine the goal is? To all sit at the table with our own beliefs and own gods (including our own minds) and sing Kum Ba Yah until
ringos grand social democracy experiment sweeps the world and AOC and Kamala blissfully hold a group-hug of diversity with all of the people? Wake up-, jar. It wont happen nor should it even be attempted!

I fear that you guys wont ever allow for the possibility of One God. You cringe at the audacity of any authority over humanity. (You fear it will be like the conservative authoritarians) So GOD waits...and lets you all attempt your grand global socialist democratic experiment. And if by His grace you are still alive after it all, He will again offer to help you.

How could ANY thinking person ever fear the God you market?

None of us fear your One God since there is thousands of years of evidence that your One God simply does not exist.

AbE:
Many of us do fear any Theocracy no matter whether it pretends it has one God or like modern Evangelical Fundamental Christianity makes up so fantasy of three in one and calls it monotheistic and we fear it because there is thousands of years of evidence that Christianity and any other theocracy cannot be trusted with power.

You mean AOC and Kamala? I have nothing against women be they white, brown, or loud and proud. The spirit behind the progressives is akin to witchcraft, however. Don't let the old white guy Biden fool you. He is but a party figurehead.

Perhaps you might ask me what I find distasteful about Liberalism.

Anti God Neo Pagan comes to mind.
