Compared to the risk from the methane that will be released the risks from microbes and viruses should be relatively minor.

I can't imagine that microbes from thawing arctic permafrost would pose any more risk to humans than microbes from the Congo or anywhere else.

Many of the microbes in the arctic are what produces the methane.
