I saw something like that but your take makes more sense. Thank you.

Yesterday Trump's 2 lawyers mounted a defense that was insane.
The irony of Trump getting a legal team that is as incompetent as he was as president, is delicious. Reportedly, trump spent yesterday yelling at the TV. I admit to a warm, euphoric feeling as I imagine that turd's stress and rage. I hope every single second of the rest of his life is miserable. Trump's lawyer had an interview last night where he claimed the classic playground "But Bobbie did it!" defense but that the difference was that Trump has loyal followers that not just listened to what Trump said but acted on it.

... he'll still be acquitted. No matter how incompetent his defense, the fix is in. Eschew obfuscation. Habituate elucidation.

I rather liked his one lawyer's argument: So arrest and try Trump on criminal charges.
As that lawyer said, the DOJ knows what to do with people like that. Edited by dwise1, : Added line

The Fulton County DA is starting just that.

Ahh, yes. The simple farmers. The people of the land. The common clay of the new America. You know … the Great American Moron. I wouldn't hope on it in those blood red districts. In the more purple sorta kind, yeah, there may be some light backlash against vaccines or something, when they decide to think on it, which won't be often, and probably only between bites of pizza when neural utilization has some excess capacity. I've watched all of the first three days of the impeachment trial. If news reports are accurate, few to no Republican minds have been changed. The jurisdictional vote received six Republican votes in favor, and something around that number are all that are likely to vote to convict.
The only reasonable goal now for the House managers is to convince the American people of Trump's culpability in the January 6th insurrection and of his unfitness for office. I'm going to begin watching the defense's presentation now. --Percy

I just saw the concluding defense, but it is all I have seen.
It was pointed out (correctly?) that the prosecution was using videos of the riot as evidence , and very little from the Jan 6 speech was examined. It sounded like there was a disagrement over what was relevant evidence. I remember we had a disagreement about whether the riot was actually evidence itself that Trump genuinely incited it. (I am getting my vaccine tomorrow btw. I was considered a necessary worker)

If you are going to accuse someone of inciting an insurrection then you need to establish that there was an insurrection. The videos are evidence of just that. The speech itself was just a part of the overall attempt to incite violence. The months long campaign of lying to his followers, the planning of the event, how the event was advertised, and so forth. Those are just as important. As with many things in life, context is important. Trump told his followers that Congress was taking their country away and that they had to march down to the Capitol and stop them. Who was surprised by the violence after that point? Not I. You could practically predict violence with near 100% accuracy after the months long campaign that was capped by that speech.

Will the Senate's ultimate verdict sway your answer one way or another?
Will a rejection of conviction/removal determine if you say YES or NO to your question?

This really leaves no doubt that Trump approved of the insurrection. And why not? It was his only hope of overturning his electoral defeat. Kevin McCarthy, the lease of the House Republicans called Trump as the insurrectionists attacked, begging him to call them off. Trump’s response:

Sorry but there is not enough information in the article.
The time of the call is not mentioned. (Ttump sent a "stay peaceful" tweet at 2:38) The context and full transcript is nowhere to be found. (What were these selective Trump quotes specifically responding to?) (Taking the word of politicians, like McCarthy, is hazardous, for absolute stsrters)
