Re: Percy's support for border walls documented.
There has long been an existing wall in El Paso. They've been there and they done that decades ago.

Border security is not anything new. And breaches in border security is not anything new.

And so far no wall has been a major deterrent to smugglers.

status of the border wall
Percy writes:

Maybe Jar knows the status of Trump's border wall efforts along the river, which were pretty draconian, for example:

Taking private property along the river by eminent domain to build the wall
Leaving entire neighborhoods on the far side of the wall
Ignoring all environmental considerations

Much of the property was taken and there was a large amount of initial site preparation done. Dirt roads for future construction were created including cutting into several of the dike structures needed to minimize flooding during our brief but severe rains. A small amount of actual fencing was installed but since nowhere were any of the sections joined up the result has been pointless destruction and lots of erosion with absolutely no positive benefits.

The costs to remedy the damage already done will equal or exceed what was spent already.

As mentioned above lots of the damage will take decades to recover; the damage done to the environment is real and unfortunately we will not know the full extent of damage for several years if not decades.

AbE:

Also, the whole stupid border wall fiasco diverted funding where it really might have helped by increasing the capacities of the current border crossings as well as increasing the services available to handle people bypassing the overloaded current infrastructure.

It ain't what it says it's what readers THINK it says.
This thread is a classic example most often evidenced in the Christian Cult of ********* but also in all the other Cults of *********.

It not what is actually written in the source whether that is a CATO Institute survey or the Bible, it's what the Apologists tell the audience it actually says.

We fail to teach people how to read, comprehend, understand, discriminate or even the techniques needed to think.

Sorry LNA but you are simply not worth any effort.

But you do provide entertainment.

From Today's New York Times.

This is the International Border crossing a Los Ebanos.

The ferry is hand powered and a-ways up the hill is a Post Office, store and Customs Border Control.

Pretty much impenetrable.

The trees are mostly Ebony which is the source of the name.

AbE: expand the view and you will see that you are looking at loops where Mexico is actually north of the US just to the east of the ferry.

AbE2: note the masks. The image is recent, taken during the pandemic. This is an example of pretty much how most of the border is in reality; mostly people going back and forth for business, shopping (the town on the Mexican side is many many times bigger than Los Ebanos with far more shopping opportunities), and to visit family and friends.
