It is statements like that that are the earmark of what is called an "elitist". You are no smarter than the other 50%. You just have different problems.
Do you know what a bell curve is, Phat? I couldnt care less if you label me an elitist. People who voted for the guy promising tariffs and then researched tariffs after the fucking election were being stupid beyond belief. People who voted for Tump thinking "he wont go after mi abuela, he'll only target those bad criminals!" were being stupid. Anyone who things Trump, who significantly damaged the economy and massively inflated the national debt in his first term, would be good for the economy or the national debt was being stupid. Anyone who thought that Trump has a better foreign policy than the US standard (which I agree is evil and terrible) was being stupid. Yes, it can get worse, and now it will. Anyone who thought Trump would be better for Palestinians in Gaza than Biden or Harris was being stupid.
Education in and of itself does not make a person any better than anyone else. Interesting you should bring that up. Guess who doesn't have a 4-year college degree? This guy. I've got a worthless Associates degree from an unaccredited tech school. By some standards I stand among "the uneducated."-->“The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.” - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. Phat writes: The only advantage that self-professed elitists have . . . . . . is they don't vote against their best interests. Only the profoundly and willfully stupid do that:
quote: Floridians who deny climate change and vote "drill, drill, drill" as their uninsured house floats away from repeated stormS of the centuries. Women who willfully give up their bodily rights to government officials with felony sexual convictions. Many of these people have advanced degrees. Yet make no mistake, the people who voted for the former president are profoundly, and irretrievably, dumb people.

I try to remind myself that "stupid" is a matter of individual decisions and context, not a permanent, enduring personal trait.
There are lots of really smart people in some field, who make utterly stupid decisions. Everyone is stupid sometimes. But I'll admit, when you fail the assignment so hard that you vote for Trump on matters of...literally any of his policies, it's really hard to remember that people arent stupid, people do stupid things. The alternative is that they simply support his hate and vindictiveness, the desire to blame and punish others overriding all sanity. That would make them evil.-->“The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.” - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. dronestar writes: Floridians who deny climate change and vote "drill, drill, drill" as their uninsured house floats away from repeated stormS of the centuries. Tying this back to the topic, you can accept the scientific conclusion of climate change and still support drilling for oil in the US. The war in Europe demonstrates this point in spades. The Russian invasion of Ukraine might have been avoided if Europe was not as dependent on Russian gas and oil, especially Germany. I will give Germany a lot of credit for their actions after the invasion of Ukraine, they took one right in the face when they shut off Russian natural gas. However, from my limited understanding of the situation, Russia was able to leverage their sales of natural gas to European nations to prevent Ukraine from entering NATO or having stronger ties with the rest of Europe. So does it make sense for the US to drill their own oil? Fuck yeah. We are no longer under the thumb of OPEC or other countries. As long as we are using oil and natural gas it makes so much sense to do it all ourselves. If we stop extracting these resources we will just have to buy from others. It's not like we would just stop using fossil fuels if we stopped drilling for them.

Im no expert on any sort of "average" Trump voter, but my take on it is this:
Many voters were unconvinced that Donald Trump was a "threat to Democracy". In addition, many were convinced that a sizeable faction was hell-bent on stopping him at any cost. The criminal convictions were unconvincing, as any number of politicians have skeletons in their closet. (Chicago's old Mayor Daily comes to mind) Kamala Harris was clearly no Hillary Clinton. She was not as experienced as the ex- president. Personally, I *only* voted for her to keep peace in my family. My jury is still out on Mr. Trump. He may well be the antichrist, for the narrative would fit. He has a majority of the American church fooled. By the end of the four years, we can judge whether Kamala would have been any better. And one other thing. A lot of y'all here fit my definition of an elitist.
Now lets see what other sources say an elitist is.
Wictionary writes: Someone who believes in rule by an elite group. Elitism is the notion that individuals who form an elite — a select group with desirable qualities such as intellect, wealth, power, physical attractiveness, notability, special skills, experience, lineage — are more likely to be constructive to society and deserve greater influence or authority. I am reminded of Theo hobnobbing with the supporters of Joe Biden in Wisconsin. What amazes me is the divisiveness in modern politics. When both religious and non-religious people reach the same conclusions then you know religion isn't the reason.--Percy God alone is God *but* God is not alone~Ellis Potter We see Monsters where Science shows us Windmills.~Phat, remixed Critics would of course say that "God" is a product of human imagination...but then again God may well declare that all of creation is a product of His imagination! Its all in perspective of the the observer.~Phat

Are you being serious right now Phat? I can't tell if you're being serious. I've never known you to joke around in such a way, but this is an absurdly ignorant take. How in the actual fuck do you reckon "the jury is still out?" The literal jury convicted him of over 30 felonies. More relevantly, we had 4 years of his actual "policies" with a bunch of career public servants staving off some of his worst/stupidest/most evil impulses, like literally shooting protesters, which he absolutely wanted/tried to do. He was told "We can't do that sir." All it takes is toadies willing to comply with illegal orders and bam - or rather "bang bang," protesters are getting shot. This is exactly the sort of thing I have to call "dumb," Phat. You have no excuse whatsoever for ignorance of this level given what I can see that people have told you and the fact we've had years of direct experience, so you must be playing the fool.-->“The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.” - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. Someone who does not believe that Jesus Christ is alive today. Someone who believes in the data out there that is fed to us without question.(Especially if it comes from a "credible" source. Someone who hates conservative billionaires yet has a net worth of over $500,000.00 and drives an electric car (and hates Republicans) Someone who has a snobbish attitude towards populists. Don't believe in Jesus and I question any and all data. I don't hate conservative billionaires because they are conservative. If I have hate towards conservative billionaires it is because they are assholes (and I don't think conservatives are assholes as a rule). In fact, I dislike most assholes regardless of net worth. I also don't drive an electric car, and prefer lots of fire breathing horsepower. Same rules apply to populists as apply to conservative billionaires, or anybody really. So where do I fit?

for fucks sake Phat you're stupid. The quote in my sig is about how inbred cousin humpers like you have lowered the bar as what qualifies as "elitist". To shit eaters like you anyone who's graduated middle school and hasn't lost their virginty to a farm animal is an elitist.Theo might have the characteristics of an elitist. Dr.Jones even brags about being one. Does anyone see a difference between the two wars? How so?

Obviously there is a difference.
In Ukraine a hostile nation has invaded with the intent of conquest. In Gaza the invasion was in retaliation for a terrorist assault with that aim of neutralising the organisation behind the attack, and freeing the hostages. Conquest is not an avowed goal, even if some on the Israeli side would like it. In both cases the invaders are targeting civilians to a degree I find unacceptable.

PK writes: True, but Ukraine is not in NATO. Israel and the United States are closer than NATO is with each other.
In Ukraine a hostile nation has invaded with the intent of conquest. PK writes: Yes, I agree. Neutralizing vs Conquest. One could argue that only by neutralizing Iran will the terrorists be de-fanged, unless they use slingshots. Netanyahu needs to go. Before he does, Iran needs to be put in check.
In Gaza the invasion was in retaliation for a terrorist assault with that aim of neutralizing the organization behind the attack, and freeing the hostages. PK writes: I agree, but might mention that Iran could be de-fanged with very few casualties. The only worry at that point would be Russia. quote: I will disagree - I think there are NATO members with a much greater interest in Ukraine than in Israel - and with a legitimate fear of Russian expansionism. Also, I will point out that it is not Israel that is threatened with conquest here.
quote: Iran is not directly involved in the conflict. There are no Iranian forces in Gaza. Any talk of “neutralising” Iran is advocating for a major escalation, and one that is unlikely to go well for anyone. Better to let the Syrian situation play out where the Iranian-backed regime is in serious trouble.
