Do you think that I would be better off "conforming" to the rest of you?
No one is asking for anyone to conform to an ideology. What I think many of us "liberals" wish for is that people learn what the facts are instead of living in a fantasy world. By "liberals" I mean a wide spectrum of people from both the left and right who happen to believe that facts are important. I think there are very healthy policy debates that could happen between the left and right sides of our political system, but that's not what we are getting. Instead, we are just continually rolling our eyes as the GOP circus gets all riled up about the latest misinformation found on Facebook or Fox News. A perfect example is the GOP refusing to vote on a bipartisan border bill THAT THEY NEGOTIATED FOR.

Yep. They will do everything they can to stop Biden from helping the American people because it would make Biden look good. The GOP platform has devolved into "Whatever the Democrats are for we are against".

K.Rose writes: How would Trump be bad for the country and the free world? Just off the top of my head . . . 1. Shutting down media organizations that disagree with Trump2. Turning the Justice Department into an enforcement department for the Republican party. 3. Withdrawing support from our European allies in a tacit approval of Russian aggression in the region. 4. Throwing out any election results that don't go Trump's way. 5. He's an erratic know-nothing who could have access to the big red button. 6. Is running for no other purpose than to pardon himself from the crimes he has committed. I could keep going.

Phat writes: One would think that the U.S. Supreme Court would not be political, but apparently stacking it with conservative judges was a long range strategy. They sure came to a quick conclusion. To be quite honest, I think it would help the country seeing Trump defeated at the ballot box, more so than having courts preventing him from running.
So how dangerous is this man? What if the tables were turned and enough dirt was dug up on anyone else to bar them? Who else has participated in an insurrection? Did Hillary Clinton hold a rally and have them interrupt the peaceful transfer of power when Trump's votes were tallied? Who else has tried to have fake electors counted by Congress?
I think that blocking a candidate who may likely defeat your party is a cheap shot, barring any evidence that he is clearly dangerous. You know, except for that evidence that he aided an insurrection against the United States which the US Constitution states is grounds for disqualification.

Lucian Trucott (Lucian K. Trucott, IV), columnist at Salon, critiques some apparent bizarre sampling methodology in the poll.
Recently, the polling in general just doesn't make sense. Ignoring polls is risky, but it is strange to see Trump ahead when 10-20% of the voters in the Republican primary have said that they won't vote for Trump in general election. Trump lost by 7 million votes nationally with nearly 100% of those Republican voters, and now he's ahead after losing 10-20% of them? This doesn't even address independents who hate Trump. The irony is that if the Republicans nominated Haley they would probably win.

K.Rose writes: If you just want your adversary to behave then you don’t insult/provoke him gratuitously, and you don’t try to grind him into the ground. You take him behind closed doors, administer the firm discussion and threats, get what you want from him, and then emerge smiling, waving, shaking hands, clapping each other on the back, and telling everyone what a great bunch of guys you are. That's what Neville Chamberlain did with Hitler. Didn't work out that well. Appeasing dictators doesn't work.
He says a thousand things every day and it’s easy enough to cherry pick something and try to make something of it that it’s not, but you have to look at the tangible, measurable results. Unemployment below 4%, massive GDP growth, one of the lowest inflation rates in the developed world, wages increasing faster than inflation, way more job growth than under Trump . . . hmm, you might be one to something about this Biden guy.

Yes, they illegally entered the country. You are saying that Biden let them in. In what way is Biden letting them in?

Tanypteryx writes: Most of the crazy inflation is actually record corporate profits! AND because of the Inflation Reduction Act inflation in the U.S. is lower than the rest of industrial countries. The massive increase in money supply is probably the root cause of that inflationary period. The choice at the time was between a massive recession or future inflation. Personally, future inflation does seem like the better choice. As to the Inflation Reduction Act, it has little to do with inflation, and will probably increase inflation in the future due to subsidies that are driving a build out of the manufacturing sector in a time of labor shortages. However, the economic benefit will probably greatly outweigh the inflation that it causes, for what it's worth. The pandemic showed us how delicate global supply chains are, and I think this is driving a shift in how we view manufacturing. For the most part, it makes a lot of sense to get as much of the supply chain under domestic control as possible, and to get as much as possible moved out of China.

K.Rose writes: You might be the only person in the country who thinks there is no inflation problem. Inflation is at 3.1%. How is that crushing?
crushing interest rates Yes, to keep inflation low. This is the aftermath of the COVID pandemic. We had the choice between a crushing recession and higher inflation. We chose the right one.
and all the kings men don't quite know how to deal with it What fantasy land are you living in? Biden has added more jobs than any modern presidency in a 4 year span, by a lot. All you are doing is repeating misinformation from Fox News.

marc9000 writes: Johnson and Carter didn't have the cult following that Biden does, no U.S.president has ever had the mainstream media so fiercely on their side. Biden cult following??? What fantasyland do you live in? It's also not hard to have the mainstream media on your side when the opposition is the Nazi party in a cheap suit. They are talking about concentration camps for brown people, for crying out loud.

marc9000 writes: By reversing previous policies that were proven to help keep them out. How was any such thing proven? We have also seen Democrats and Biden agree to a negotiated bipartisan immigration bill that would greatly increase border security. Guess what happened? Trump and Republicans killed the bill.
