I think a lot of the Muslims who voted for Trump are going to be very disappointed by that list.Gaetz’ appointment is pure cronyism. A man who resigned form Congress to escape an Ethics Committee investigation as Attorney General? I’ve seen it suggested that he might be the first candidate for that position to take the 5th during his confirmation hearings.But I’ll bet that he’d put support for Trump over the duties of the office which makes him a great candidate from Trump’s point of view.

Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration as Attorney General. Looks to me as if the Ethics Committee had the goods on him. The Republicans all wanted to keep it secret, so we may never know, but we can be sure it never came close to clearing him.

Since Gaetz - probably - resigned to escape the Ethics Committee report I doubt very much that he would want to go back to the House. That would put him right back in the firing line.

All the Republicans on the Committee voted to keep the report secret.

I’m not surprised. My impression was that he was afraid of the Ethics Committee report, beyond what it might mean to his chances of Confirmation as Attorney General (which really depended on Trump strongarming the Senate anyway).

The Republican bill that was voted down only suspended the debt ceiling for two years. I very much doubt that Republicans would back repealing it for good. Even two years was too much for some of them.

Trump sabotaged the immigration bill in the same way before the election, so this is no real change.I don’t know that Congress is going to be completely supine, though. The rebels are signalling that they won’t give Trump a blank cheque - when Trump is planning spending increases and tax cuts. The same thing happened with Trump’s wall - the Republican-controlled congress wouldn’t approve the spending in 2017.So Trump may have to fight for his spending and tax plans, and may not win.

All criticisms of Trump’s policies would be “expectations of what he is going to do”. Trump is not yet President. And of course there are plenty of valid criticisms of what Trump did in office in his previous term. The mismanagement of the Covid pandemic, his utter failure to come up with a better alternative to the Affordable Care Act, his attempt to blackmail Ukraine and the absurdity of Sharpiegate all spring to mind. His determined attempts to steal the 2020 election up to encouraging insurrection simply put the cap on it.
