Not at all - I don't know why you'd get such an idea from what JonF said.
However, what we should throw out the window is any claim that we can work out what the odds of are of such life existing (particularly if we are considering intelligent life).
We can't work out the odds of ET existing for the same reasons we can't work do the "calculations of the probability of our existance" - we don't have enough information.
We've even got the Drake Equation which is an attempt to allow us to calculate the odds of their being intelligent life out there - problem is even if the equation is right we don't know what numbers to plug into it.
I just realised this is way off topic - but I think it needed to be said. If there's anything further you want to talk about we can fire up another thread in PNT.
