That's exactly what some creationists believe.
The point of young-earth creationism is not to "explain" anything. It's to oppose science and a "naturalistic worldview". These are the same people who believed in a flat earth and a geocentric universe. They hounded Galileo to death for looking through his telescope, not for what he saw.
There's no compromising with such people. They'll always be fanatics - about one thing or another.
