quote: That reminds me of a story my brother told me years ago during a discussion he and I were having about our crazy mother. There are four children in the family. He said that he tried to stay off of my mother's "list". Our oldest sister was on "the list" for choosing to go to art school, but is now off "the list" because she was highly successful as a commercial graphic designer, got married, started her own business, made lots of money, etc. The next younger sister was off "the list" because she did everything my mother told her to do, including what to study in college. She then went seriously on "the list" for marrying an asshole who is a social idiot (he's very shy and very afraid of people but it manifests in being rude and abrasive). My brother was off "the list" for a long time because he was the male child, was smart, and went to school for Chemistry to my father's alma mater, instead of studying music like he wanted to. He then went on "the list" for quitting his job as a Chemist and becoming a sports book dealer and writer/poet. He married a nice but standoffish woman which read as neutral to my mother, so it did not affect his list status much, but buying a house and getting back into Chemistry as an instructor at WVU got him back off "the list". After he told me this whole litany, I just stared at him. Then I said: "I didn't know it was even possible to get off the list" This message has been edited by schrafinator, 11-13-2005 10:28 PM

OP writes: For Creationists: Do you have any close friends who are staunch Evolutionists?Yes...many whom reside at EvC are my online friends..(although they would deny it! ) Does the issue ever become a topic between you? Of course! They need God and I attempt to tell them about Him! How does the differences in beliefs affect or challenge your friendship, if at all? That has yet to be determined! As soon as I can get deliverance from all of the demons that plague me, I will pray for them! Until then, we all need Jesus! End of Story!!! quote: She's just worried about you, you know. She's scared. You can't blame her; that's her job as a mother. I wish my mother cared more about that stuff (like, if I'm fulfilled and happy and healthy) and spent less time trying to tell me how to live the mundane aspects of my life. EVERY other aspect of my life. (I should add that she stopped doing that once I stopped being defensive every time she attacked me and criticized me, and instead said things like "I'm sorry you feel that way", and "Oh". That freaked her right the hell out, but since she wasn't able to control me or get me to fight back, it really wasn't the payoff for her that it used to be.)

She's just worried about you, you know. She's scared. You can't blame her; that's her job as a mother. she does have a very good mother. but also a very crazy mother. her mother and my mother are about the two worst-adjusted people on the planet. we compete at "who has the craziest mother." brenna's currently beating me. but i dunno how long that'll last. No, no, I have the craziest mother.
And she doesn't have the excuse of being an alcoholic or a drug addict (except for ciggarettes) or uneducated or living in poverty or being schizophrenic. I have some stories about my childhood that would make your hair stand on end, curl, and then fall right out. Mine was a pretty bad mother.

No I have the craziest mother, and I can prove it:
after raising us she went back to school to get a Ph.D. in Child Psychology.

Not using something that was bought and paid for with hard earned money and constituted a major investment is not being wasteful?
If you bought a ferrari or a small house for show, and didn't use it otherwise, would that be wasteful? We are talking that scale of investment after all eh? We kids used to argue who was the black sheep of the family, each one vying for that classification. This is based on the information provided by said mother about child psychology ... Your move. by our ability to understand RebelAAmerican.Zen[Deist

Because I wasn't working in the field that I studied in college, she told me that I had "wasted" the money she and my father had spent on my education. I was 25 at the time. that's all you got? i'm only 22 right now, and i'm already a failure because i almost have arts degree -- regardless of whether or not i use it eventually. but while we're on collegiate studies, my mother holds a masters degree in greek classics and worked for several years fixing the 1980 problem in COBOL for some company. now, she's a crazy old housewife who can't use a computer to write her 7-page emails without screaming tech support. and yes, she prints every single one of them, and files them in binders. (we've finally convinced her that she doesn't have to print the junk mail) one time, i had to teach her how to use a ruler in order to figure what margin settings she had in a program. yes, you read that right, i had to explain how to use a ruler. i couldn't make up something like that. she likes to make that "tsk" noise at anything even vaguely sexual these days, but will proceed to tell in detail about her sex life with my father. one time, she explained that the cash i borrowed for something was from their, uh, "savings" jar. she's turning conservative very quickly, looking down her nose at everyone she can, especially americans and black people. but she loves ellen degeneres, and pretends she's a lesbian. we (brenna, brenna's b/f, and i) found during the hurricane that the only way to get her to shuttup about my little brother, unprovoked anti-religious ranting, or random racism is to get her drunk. she gets more inhibited with alcohol, not less. and we like it that way. those are the things i consider amusing. want me to go on to the serious misgivings, marital and family issues, psychiatric issues, etc?

... the only way to get her to shuttup ... is to get her drunk. My mom's not happy without a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other, she's had breast cancer, chemo therapy and a mastectomy and still smokes a pack a day, even though she had an allergic reaction to the first chemo therapy chemical and doesn't want to go through that process again anyway. She takes several drives a day so that she doesn't forget where she is.
... will proceed to tell in detail about her sex life with my father ... That's not normal? Maybe we should move this to the {return to humor} thread? ps - sometimes {pot\hemp\mj\weed} works wonders on otherwise verobse visitors. My parents keep some in stock for a particular friend. Of course it has no effect on my mom at all .... none. This message has been edited by RAZD, 11*24*2005 08:34 AM by our ability to understand RebelAAmerican.Zen[Deist
