In fact it is a property of space - it's curvature - that demands that the ends of the bar meet up. It follows a "straight" path right around the universe.

And therefore your argument is no good since it assumes that space is not curved. In short your argument is circular since it tries to prove your model by stating what would occur if your model were correct. All you're doing is begging the question.
