NO!!! Faith is NOT Fact. The job of the Public School system is to teach FACT. Leave Faith for Sunday School. If ID can come up with ANY scientific evidence, or the Bible itself for that matter, then it could be considered. People actually believed the Old Testament stories as literal fact at one point but anyone who is being honest with themselves knows that they have over time become literal fables. The probability of Noah's Ark being a true event is ZERO. I believe that PBS did a computer model of the Ark using the size and structure stated in The Bible. When it was surrounded by water, even though it was EMPTY, it fell completely apart. Not to mention that 4 men with primitive hand tools couldn't have possibly built it. Weren't 3 of those 4 men supposed to be the origin of the 3 races too? Zero probability as well.

RAZD,
You are correct. The job of the Public School system is to teach Fact AND to separate Fact from Fiction. Comparative Religion or Mythology courses would be appropriate as well as Literature courses. The Bible is a beautifully written collection of stories with some excellent moral conclusions. It is however Historically and Scientifically flawed.
Rick

Re: The Topic is Teaching Creationism in Schools
I'll try to make it real simple here. Look at a pile of dirt and look at ANY ape. You tell me where you came from. Common sense will dictate the answer. I think the creationists would do themselves best by admitting that Evolution is correct and that Evolution is Gods plan. Even as an Atheist I could live with that. This way students who have strong religious convictions can have their cake AND eat it too. It's really the ONLY compromise here.

Faith vs. Fact
The answer to the topic here is still plainly NO. I went to Dictionary.com to find the definitions for the 2 words.
Faith - 2. Belief that is not based on fact
Fact - 1. Something that actually exists, reality, truth
2. Something known to exist or to have happened
I still believe that the job of the Public School system is to teach Fact and not Faith and to separate the two from each other. Creationism is at best Faith based Science. Evolution is driven by Fact. The ONLY flaw in Evolution is that of the whole evolutionary puzzle probably only 1/1000th of it has been found. The odds of any species of life being preserved by fossilization and then discovered millions of years later are very slim. That being said, every day that passes builds up the case for Evolution and tears down the ancient myths of Creationism. Science IS the myth slayer.
All in my humble opinion, of course.

Re: Already posted this in the coffee house thread, but its pertinent here
The up side is that this will bring on another Dover like lawsuit which will obliterate ID again. Even the Santorum backed, Dubya appointed Judge saw the light in Pennsylvania. It's got to be REAL hard for Fundamental Christians to struggle with this. They believe in something with everything they have only to have it PROVEN to be so wrong. If they have to send their children to the "evil" Public School system predisposed to such an unscientific belief there can only be trouble. The rest of the world will surely take advantage of such a Scientific resistive culture. Most of these same people reject Global Warming as well. That seems strange to me because if God created the World, wouldn't we be interested in protecting it's environment?
Science, Schmience...

I'll say it again... FAITH IS NOT FACT. Fact does NOT need faith to make it true. That's where Mr. Beretta and the whole ID movement are stuck.
This issue is sadly one of the main reasons for the attempted financial abandonment of the Public School System in this country. Since the attempt to replace fact with faith WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL, cutting the throat of the PSS is the logical next step for the shoot first, ask questions last, cowboy mentality of our current administration and it's followers/leaders.
All of course, in my humble opinion.
