A wonderful summary of basically all the arguments in the thread against using the term "race" and why in any case, such a concept is not supported by genetics. Wish I had been as concise and clear when debating with Peter.

All the rest of us hoped on the obvious. Holmes found the real issue here. Then he asked all the right questions.
I hope the Ninja Monkey will give us the answers. I would like to see a print out of holmes's post given to the teacher.

Thanks ned, I think I recognized the issue because ninja's class "debate" is very similar to the idea that science should be treated like a court trial, which was something I argued against in the thread I recently opened in "Is it Science?"
So kind of good timing for me.
After this recommendation I feel sort of silly for also having (admittedly) posted one of the most fatuous replies in that same thread, joining absholom in shallow mockery... my apologies.

If you wish to make God an object that is subject to scientific scrutiny you may find yourself in disagreement with many (or most) theologians. Given the rather stringent rules for performing good science you may not want to do that nor may you like the results.
In other words, isn't it more blasphemous to expect God to show up in the petri dish?

On the use of technical jargon in various scientific fields.

ps: Q included this quote:
quote:
Take the above paragraph and insert "paleontologist" in place of cancer researcher. Whatever truth is being determined at the logidemic level between paleontologists, they must at some point convey it into the pandemic so it can {hopefully} make it to the practidemic. Of what use is anything if it cannot be understood by ordinary intelligent humanity ?
I added the "bolds". Irony in action?

Re: Jargonodemic
That topic has been moving pretty fast (or at least a lot of messages are pilling up). I just got back to skim the thing, to get the greater context. All I can say is, it is "something else".
That said, this side string does not belong in the POTM forum. Please start a "Jargon" or something topic elsewhere, if this is to be discussed further.

I'm biased of course, but I believe he has put forward some points in a way that I haven't seen dealt with before. This is a very clear post.

Not to slight other fine messages in the same topic, but I'm giving the "POTM" nomination to this one.
Are Gene90's and my socio-political perspectives coming together ?

Perhaps the nicest, most coherent, concise message I have ever seen out of Brad. 15 and 1/2 lines long - Still some monster sentences though (entire message is 4 sentences). He only cited one name (Gould) that wasn't obviously relevent to the thread (which isn't to say it wasn't relevent).
And I think I can also actually pull some interesting (to me) information out of it.
Keep up the good work, Brad.

Two posts, two home runs!
Carefully worded, formated, logically tied together. Patient (where is it hardly deserved) and complete.
