Re: Gradualism: not the topic
My understanding is that the seasons have nothing to do with whether the earth's climate overall is more or less tropical - they have to do with a slight wobble in the spin of the earth around its north to south axis - during the months around september to march, this puts the Northern hemisphere closer to the sun than during the months april to august. It's vice versa in the southern hemisphere (hence the reason Father Christmas gets 6 white kangaroos delivering him and presents to kids in Australia in the middle of their summer).

Trees will always do fairly well in a local climate to which they have become accustomed - tropical, temperate, or my own UK climate (99% rainy). But that climate will vary annually between a warmer and a colder situation, dependent upon the tilt on the Earth's north-south axis, which brings that climate futher or nearer to the sun. This annual variation is what produces the rings.

Now then - we do assume a seasonal fluctuation consistent with today's, because we know that axial tilt varies microscopically across hundreds of thousands of years. In other words, annual changes in climate, as a result of axial tilt, have been around as long as trees have. (And that reference to "annual" is so equal to 365.25 days per annum across the whole time that trees have been around as makes no difference). So the rings in tree trunks will not be affected by the fact that a generally more tropical climate would have existed on the Earth in the past - those tropical trees would still have experienced a growing and a non-growing season as a result of that axial tilt. The general climate has no impact on this.

The problem is only yours, in trying to fit all of reality into human understanding.

Incorrect. We are seeking to expand human understanding, to try to encompass all of reality. That is the very essence of science - it is not predetermined.

It is you who is trying to fit reality into your beliefs.

Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

Re: Correlation validation by Egyptian Chronology
We should remember also that science really doesn't know what is in the inner earth.

Well, let’s kick off with reflection seismology: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflection_seismology

Have a read and try and learn something.

Re: Correlation validation by Egyptian Chronology
None of the applications even deal with the inner earth, only the surface (100 km or whatever) .

Indeed. But you accept the validity of the scientific method of deducing the constitution of the earth below its surface from analysing reflected seismology, even down to the 100km referred to in the article, yes ?

Re: Red and yellow black and white
Absolutely agree Paul.

Getting to Berlin is not an easy job for most of us, but if anyone reading this ever goes there, the thing which should be at the absolute top of the list is a visit to the Holocaust memorial.

Within the field of multi-sized coffin shapes, representing the 6 million victims of vile torture and murder perpetrated by the followers of the sort of hatred and evil which dad seems to support, there is a museum, recording the awful journey which Germany took to reach that horror.

So much has stayed with me from that visit, but three things are worth a mention today, seeing as we do the rise of alt right fascists and populism in the supposedly free world today:

1. It is the only museum I have ever been in where I have heard people openly weeping in the rooms. It is truly a heart rending experience.

2. The parallels between what happened in Germany, leading to the rise of populist right wing evil, and what is happening in the West are terrifying. If you want evidence of this, read Hitler’s passages about propaganda from Mein Kampf - they’re on the internet here Propaganda in Nazi Germany - Wikipedia . It’s describing Trump’s playbook.

3. I cannot put it better than a quotation by Primo Levi, a holocaust survivor, which quotation is writ large at the entrance to the museum:

“We must be listened to: above and beyond our personal experience, we have collectively witnessed a fundamental unexpected event, fundamental precisely because unexpected, not foreseen by anyone. It happened, therefore it can happen again: this is the core of what we have to say. It can happen, and it can happen everywhere.“

Re: Red and yellow black and white
Did you notice on the Wiki article about Nazi propaganda how they vilified the left wing Bolsheviks ?

Congratulations dad - you’re channeling the Nazi spirit !

Re: Red and yellow black and white
Oh bullshit. It’s there on the record pal. Some people finally shout and break a few windows after 400 years of oppression, slavery, murder, lynching, disadvantage, insult, racism, vilification and hatred, solely as a result of the amount of melanin in their skin, and you have the unmitigated gall to label them terrorists.

You’re an alt-right fascist, and you’ve outed yourself.

Re: Dates are based and correlated on belief
Right, let's send you somewhere you haven't been - an original thought.

I have read some ancient text that tells me that the universe is 28 billion years old - twice as old as those silly scientists say it is. Therefore those silly scientists are wrong and nature is different out there - but different to the way you say it's different. So I'm right and you 're wrong.

So have at it - show how I'm wrong and you're right.

Bet you can't.
