I want an honest answer from the ladies.
I asked my gf and she says she thinks relatively darker is better. Then she said it could be because like when you want to eat meat you want it darker rather than lighter/pinker (since pinker would be less done... less healthy).
After I got done laughing at the obvious Freudian implications of that statement I asked if she wanted me to write it anyway. She said yeah.
But why do you limit the question to ladies. I think there are a number of gays and bis on the site, and maybe hetero guys have a pref too.
Personally I like darker too. That way I don't have to worry about tanning it, and thus have less opportunities of getting a sunburn (like I usually do tanning the rest of my body, where I use less sunblock).
