Interesting topic.
But we already have a thread started on Ron Wyatt.
Did you know that Wyatt claimed to have found the ark of the covenant? Underneath Jesus' crucifiction site? With Christ's blood on the mercy seat? You may want to re-evaluate how much credence you want to give him.
We would be interested in your comments on the first thread to which I linked.

Re: Well...
Things dont need reason (just as you dont need a reason to be so pedantic ) i could easily ask why not?.
There is a point to life as such, to keep replicating.
Because they do.
They do, and because you are just chemicals, then a change in those chemicals causes a change to you

Why did you get hammered for it? Don't be hindered by other people...lots of prominent figures in history has gargantuan oppositions.

Re: Well...
But I want to go past Jupiter and beyond the infinite. Why can't I have the things of my imagination, I want to fly like superman, or superbunny even. Why, why, why, why!!!!!
So now I am a chemical mound, a fruitless forum wh*re, made for Unseul's debating happy chemicals.
What about pain, that's a sucker, ever dropped a brick on your toenail? I know we need pain, but why so damn much, I mean, is that kind of pain necessary for the bashing of a mere nail? As for replicators, I don't own one, I'll phone Voyager and ask for one, maybe Tuvok has a spare.

Re: potential?
Hello, Mike.
As I tried to say, there is no reason for my existence. I am just hear. An accident. My mom and dad were...happy at the right time, and there I was. The existence of my mom and my dad were the random result of history - if any event in history happened differently, my mom and dad may never have meant, or may never have existed. If certain random events had happened in the distance past - the Tobu eruption managed to killed of that last 10,000 humans, even just left a different group of humans living, none of us would be here. If that asteroid hadn't hit the earth 65 million years ago, if a different asteroid had hit the earth maybe 10 million year earlier, maybe mammals would still by scurrying about the trees, and a different species would be dominant. Chance thermodynamic fluctuations in the solar nebula as it collapsed might have led to no large planet in the habitable zone about the sun.
No, there is no rhyme nor reason for me to be here. I just am. Dig it.
On the other hand, now that I am here I have to do something to occupy my time.

Re: Well...
I want all those things too, but hey, shit happens.
Like i said, next time your in pain, try a very specific pain i found it easier, try and think that its actually a really nice sensation, it can get quite confusing. Dunno why theres so much pain, stubbing your toe i reckon is one of the worst, bloody things. But there again, if we can interrupt the chemicals the pain goes away, hurrah for pain killers
Voyagers out im afraid, last thursday. But i think Picard has still got a spare one.

Why? Why is there time for you to occupy? Why is there time, if there is no reason, then everything might aswell just get over and done with. I disagree you are chance.
Also, if you had a different father, would you exist? Would your mind be you, or someone else?

Re: Well...
I guess sh*t happens and so does mike the wiz. Lol!!
Also, Why can't I be invincible like Clark Kent in smallville, and have bullets bounce off my brain?
Like i said, next time your in pain, try a very specific pain i found it easier, try and think that its actually a really nice sensation, it can get quite confusing.
I try that when sticking my foot in hot water, the pain seems to increase. Are you trying to make my pain worse for more happy chemicals?
You'd think Picard could have replicated a wig by now.

Re: Well...
I said specific pain, try just using the tip of one finger when you do it, concentrate on the sensation you are feeling, try not to associate it with anything at first, then think to yourself hey this is quite nice. I havent managed to do it on larger parts of my body, only if i can really focus on a small area.
Overall i spose i just dont ask as many whys as you do (well i probably do, but i just dont mind as much if the answer is just down to chance). Perhaps i have a lower self esteem or something, and dont believe that im important, but this isnt true cos i personally believe that im the most important thing, and my happiness is what is important.
Nah if he wore a rug then no one would respect him anymore.
ATM my happy chemicals are slowly going down, because its early in the morning, as you're aware, only i have a presentation to write, and its part of a group thing, so im beginning to feel perhaps i should do it. So im think im going to have to sign off for the night and actually knuckle down to it.

Re: Well...
Okay, I too am tired as it is nearly 2 am. I also don't think I am teribly important, I just have friends in high places, who know all the answers.
I guess you are happy to submit to this philosophy of chance and evolution. If it satisfies you then fair enough, I doubt I can convince you of the truth anyway. Nevertheless, you do have an open mind. It's usually much harder with other atheists.

Do you believe that we have soul and spirit?
What would they be made out of?
And purpose?
I have plenty of purpose. How about you? Have you chosen a purpose yet?
Why do you think that we live?
You'd have to ask your parents.

Re: Well...
Prove that I think. How do you know that this post isn't just created by chance?
As it happens, Mikey, you've just stepped into one of the great advantages of the materialistic worldview - we can know that you think. We can do this because you are a human, with a brain, and we know human brains think.
If there is no reason to exist, then nothing exists. Nothing will remain nothing. Why? Why should there be anything? Why would nothing cause something? There must be a reason?
Why should nothing exist? What shouldn't something exist? It's just an arbitary assumption that nothing is more fundemental than something.

Re: Well...
You see, I am saying that this Big Bang supposedly came from nothing. Why? If there never was anything, why would there be one day?
Nothing isn't more fundamental, it's just nothing, zip, zero. If we mean nothing then surely we would be nothing? Or nothingness would remain?

Yep.
Everyone born on this earth has a specific purpose, tailor-made for themselves. It is what makes them happy. While one person may enjoy being a doctor, someone else may love computers. Everyone has different things that give them fulfillment, and it is up to the individual to pursue it.
Your parents can not determine your destiny. Nor can they explain it, because it would be a falsehood.
However, what remains important is what happens to this source of life when you die. Nothing on this earth would be of any use if it simply went away.
