Re: It's Just Spurious
If it helps, I'm sure Jack Kirby's kids are a mite more pissed off than you are.

"Egos drone and pose alone, Like black balloons, all banged and blown
On a backwards river the infidels shiver in the stench of belief.
And tell my mama I'm a hundred years late; I'm over the rails and out of the race
The crippled psalms of an age that won't thaw are ringing in my ears"

Re: It's Just Spurious
It's pretty overwhelming when you think of just how much Kirby contributed to the initial success of Marvel.

Enough time given for basic mourning?
Well, seems like the time of mourning is over, so here’s my shot.
While I consider respect important, posting in a thread with a label title is not the equivalent or pulling a Rev. Phelps or ripping into him on the news. I’ll also point out that if someone was in mourning they could have looked at the title and skipped over the thread. It certainly wasn’t like people were being forced to read a welcome screen instead of a thread.
Still it is important to say something, since the silence would just be construed by many of those too young to remember as some form of agreement.
We call them social contracts for a reason. It implies more than one active participant. If the other party/parties aren’t going to uphold their parts of the bargain then all bets are off. To me it is inherent in the social contract that people are held accountable and are being honest while alive. Conservatives claim to be the ones carrying the moral torch, but when is the last time you heard any group of conservatives take an elected conservative to task and I don’t mean for not supporting prayer in school, school vouchers, DOMA, or something on their platform. Then they’re all over the person. But for lying, being deceitful, or abuse of office.
quote:
Berberry: I disagree that she "turned traitor". I think she came to realize that she (or more to the point, her husband) had been wrong. You don't think it's possible for a selfish woman to change? She's out there fighting one of the good fights and I support what she's doing 1000%. Why must I question her motives?
An shallow person that thought the world should cater her, now thinks the government should do something because she was personally effected. That’s not real change to me. Change is if she suddenly, cared for someone with problems that didn’t touch on her little world. Now that would be real change. I understand what you’re saying, and I am not saying that I am not glad to see her taking this step. Her effort hopefully will do lot’s of good. It just pisses me off that in the richest country in the world it has to be problem for the rich in order to see anything get done.
quote:
Holmes: What's worse is when you see their "change" not affect other portions of their lives beyond the one most convenient to them.
Bingo! Much better than I had put it. Empathic people are open to help people around them. The people I see as heroes are those that go out of their way to make the world better.
