Maybe it will fall on deaf ears but ignorance is no refutation. Until someone can explain to me otherwise, I'll continue to believe that the rich make things hard for the poor by competing for the same resources. Thus they should bear an unfair portion of the costs of government.Clearly, the free market can't be trusted to supply an optimum situation for the consumer when it comes to the things people have to buy (housing, food, etc) because consumers have limited leeway for comparison shopping. This is clearly most acute in housing where geographic constraints tighten consumer choice even farther. If the free market betrays the consumer in this way I think those portions should come under strict government control. I don't think subsidies and handouts are the answer, in that I agree with conservatives. But it's lunacy to think that the free market can supply all needs at an optimum basis for the consumer.------------------
