Yah, well that works the other way, too. I generally post only the segment or statement in the link which I deem useful to either support my point, or make a point. I have then been accused on occasion of quoting out of context or attention has been diverted to other subject material in the link. I guess we're straying quite far off subject here, but hope our newcomer has benefited by the exchange.

Thanks, Crashfrog, for clarification. Btw, from almost day one of my arrival, though we occasionally lock horns in spirited debate, you're one of my favorite evo counterparts here. I appreciate the sentiment, though I can't possibly imagine why you would find that would be the case. Unless it's my disarming good looks...

An updated summary.

Your heart seems not to have yet petrified into stone as seems to be the case with so many evos here in town. If you say so. Quite frankly I'm a pretty hardcore evolutionist, though I'm no scientist. And it would take a literal miracle - an actual visitation from God - to make me a beliver again. I mean, I'm willing to entertain ideas, and I'll change my mind about the evolution thing when there's an explanation that works better - but I think that's largely true of everybody else here. If you have dreams about bringing my soul back into the fold, however, I'll have you know that I'm likely to be a pretty tough sell. I'm not trying to be proud, but rather, inform you that I have some pretty strict criteria for evidence. Oh, and by way of returning the compliment - thanks for not being one of those creationists who flips out and tells us we're all hell-bound when the debate doesn't go their way... I agree with Crash, while I am open to ideas, I would have to have a great deal of evidence in order to believe in any deity(s) again. After being on both sides, I believe that science simply makes more sense due to the overwhelming evidence in favor of evolution. Yet, I find it hard to fully understand why so many Creationists think that a belief in evolution precludes a belief in god. Why can't the two be seperate? One requires evidence (evolution) the other requires faith (religion).
PE, you're only 14? Holy Cow! You are very well spoken for a teenager; more well spoken than most adults...(even me). Keep posting, PE, I have enjoyed reading your thoughts and Buzz's as well. 34? Sorry, I am 33. My wife pointed that out yesterday; guess senility has set in early!

quote: 1. Put it this way. You would have a lot more to gain, imo, than I from real conversion to Biblical Christianity. Could it be possible that what you came out of was one of the fellowships of the pseudo fold? There are a number of those existing. Or could it be that the lordship of the Lord, Christ Jesus and all it entails would not suit your desired lifestyle? 2. As for the evidence, not the thread for it, but many of the Biblical prophecies are simply irrefutable and have never been sensibly refuted by anyone. 3. Yah, I'm sure you'd be a tough nut to crack for Christ and Christianity as most would be here, Crashy, but hey, with God and the powerful wooing/drawing power of his mighty Spirit, anything's possible. Hee hee! Nice avatar, Pogo. There's one on my course website with two workers mulling over the word "SHCOOL".
Buzsaw, bravo again! Message 114 is really powerful. I'd say your feet are blessed right about now. |

quote: We have been through this before, Buz. However, since you seem to have been unconvinced even though you were thoroughly trounced before, I'll bite. Please state, say, three very specific, unambiguous prophecies from the Bible which you think have been fulfilled. Please provide independent, widely-agreed-upon, non-Biblical evidence that they have been fulfilled. My guess is that you won't be able to get past the "unambiguous" part, but I could be wrong...

Could it be possible that what you came out of was one of the fellowships of the pseudo fold? You know, every one of the "faithful" I talk to about my experience asks this question. "Was I really a Christian? Or was I a fake Christian?" The question I ask them in return is, "if I couldn't tell the difference then, how can you tell the difference now? How do you know that you're a real Christian?" So far I've never gotten an answer that was better than "I just know." Of course, I just knew I was a Christian back then, and guess what? I was wrong. If I was wrong, couldn't you be wrong?
As for the evidence, not the thread for it, but many of the Biblical prophecies are simply irrefutable and have never been sensibly refuted by anyone. I believe I'm on the record as to my feelings about "prophecy" and the problems inherent in any attempt to predict the future. These were largely figured out by the Greeks, well before the Bible.
Yah, I'm sure you'd be a tough nut to crack for Christ and Christianity as most would be here, Crashy, but hey, with God and the powerful wooing/drawing power of his mighty Spirit, anything's possible. I'm sure it is.

I am 35 with 3 lovely kids (girls 3 and 2, newborn boy).
There were some things in this thread which made me quite sad. I feel sick whenever I hear that atheists, evolutionists etc. have no morale. They just do not have that perverted and hypocritical morale of some Christians (note that I say "some", because I know Christians with REAL morale.)I am sad, because I see good-heared and intelligent people, which are at the same time narrowminded and selfrighteous. And they are hopeless. So for them I will say this prayer: Bismillah hir-rahma nir-raheem. Alhamdu lil-lahi rabbil 'alameen. Ar rahm'a nir-raheem. M'aliki yawmid - deen. Iyy'aka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'een Ihdinas sir'atal mustaqeem, sir'atal Lazeena an'amta 'alayhim. Ghayril maghd'ubi 'alayhim walad d'al-leen. 'Ameen. ------------------Life has no meaning but itself. |
