Topic: A Christian Exodus in America

Ok, this is the first topic i've proposed. Hope people like it! I recently came across the following website http://www.christianexodus.com/index.php?module=PostWrap&... . Tp those who don't know it, it is the website of a group of christians who want to start a mass exodus of like-minded christians to Souch Carolina. When they get there they plan to get themselves elected into the state government, and begin a transformation of South Carolina into a more "biblically minded" state with respect to the laws and social behaviour etc. I'm not sure, but they may plan to spread out from here and establish themselves in other states too. What I wanted to do here was find out from other christians what they think of this idea, and what they think of the theology of the group. Do you think what they envisage is a good idea? They seem to be fairly extreme, and i've seen talk of banishing people from the state that aren't deemed worthy of living there (such as homosexuals and their supporters). Also I wanted to ask what people in America (especially SC) think of the idea, and what you'll do if it succeeds. I don't live in America myself. Note to Admin, this is probably best put into the Faith and Belief forum.

Is there any particular reason why they chose South Carolina? What will these people do to anyone who is currently living in SC that worships another god, will they employ Joshua's policy of 'ethnic cleansing'? Is this a genuine website?

I've seen at least one person say that he wants everyone that doesn't think like him (i'm paraphrasing here, but this is really the jist of what he said) to be escorted to the border and kicked out of the state.
brian writes: Is this a genuine website? I believe so. If it was just the static webpages i'd be inclined to think it was a spoof like landoverbaptists.com, but they have a discussion forum there. It's full of members of their group discussing what they're going to do when they move etc.

I had a go at signing their guestbook  but you have to become a member. Looks a genuine enough website. Some people just don't know how to live alongside others. Maybe it would be a good idea to herd all the evangelical born again types into one state and make sure that they stay there, cut off from decent people. The world would be a much nicer and friendlier place without them. Oh well, good luck to them. Brian.

Landover is a spoof? No! They have something about that in their about us section, but it is all simply doublespeak. For example, they say they profess religious tolerance yet they also go on to say

Additionally, sexual conduct outside the bonds of marriage is not a God-given right. Therefore, homosexual activity is a behavior that a state may regulate and legislate against. and in this paragraph:
Religious displays in public: Communities have a right to express values consistent with the majority of their citizens. This includes the public display of religious symbols such as crosses and the Ten Commandments. This communal right rests upon freedom of religious exercise and freedom of speech. However, there is no right to freedom from exposure to religious expression. To suggest otherwise would automatically negate and violate the unalienable rights of religious freedom and free speech. In other words, a religious minority in a community does not have a right to deny religious expression to the majority. As with all other communal decisions, the values and expressions of a community will inevitably result from popular will at the ballot box. If a religious minority does not like the decisions made by the majority, they may either relocate to another community or attempt to change the minds of the electorate and become the majority. they show their true bigotry. Under this, a minority religion can be kept from religious expression. It is a sad day for SC if they suceed, but better there than near me.

Some of the people in the forums make a point about how they don't want a theocracy, then go on to say how anything unbiblical (by their interpretation) is by definition going to be illegal....one more scary contradiction from them. I wonder what they're going to do about other religions. What if they all group together and start displaying their religious symbols overtly? I wonder if they'll allow that. It could result in a very interesting situation to watch, but only because I'm not going to be the minority living there.

Also I wanted to ask what people in America (especially SC) think of the idea I think it's a great idea, if it convinces the religious kooks to leave Missouri.

I love this passage from the President's message.

Very weird, if it's really genuine. But why do they want South Carolina? I think we ought to give 'em New Jersey instead.

It seems that there are a few options to joining.
There are 3 levels of access on the ChristianExodus.org discussion forums: 1. Guests - may view most forums, but only post in a couple. 2. Registered Users - may view most forums and post in many forums. 3. ChristianExodus.org Members - may view all forums and post in all forums. If you've registered and you're unable to post in a forum, it's because the forum is reserved for ChristianExodus.org members. If you've joined CE as a member via the "Membership" link at left, then we need to get you manually upgraded to be able to post. Write Moderator@ChristianExodus.org with such a request if you're a CE member already.
I initially thought that they were trying to pad their membership (12,000 needed for phase 1) and was going to suggest that we all join .

I've had other friends suggesting a muslimexodus, paganexodus, atheistexodus or even just an evilheathenexodus to SC just before they go. Give them a nice warm welcome
