This is a very important point.
I mean look at the folk-lore that has built up around
Jesse James, William Bonney, and the Earp brothers ...
and that's just over a hundred years ago.
Also, in regard to the OP, the Robin Hood legend as is now
is an amalgamation of several 'songs' abut different Robin
Hoods (a pseudonym common for outlaws) from different
regions of England ... over time they have been amalgamated
into a single legend.
