I think that that Religious Studies should be part of schools because the children need to get an understanding, an unbiased one mind you, of the world's different religions. If some atheist gets offended that religion is being taught, tell them "c'est la vive."

Agreed. Atheist and agnostic beliefs should also be taught.

Re: Atheists are more tolerable than any other group!
Not in my experience. It's always been the atheists that get upset for me.

Re: Atheists are more tolerable than any other group!
It's my experience of being taught. It's always been the atheists who have told the teacher that someone was reading a Bible, or they caught someone saying grace at lunch, or praying over their math test.
I have done all of those things at school, just to myself, and it's always been the atheists that complain.

Re: Atheists are more tolerable than any other group!
But it is impossible to be unbiased. Nobody on Earth is unbiased. Speaking from the other hand, I have had teacher's who I'm sure believed in the evolution we were learning about, and that they thought anyone who doesn't believe evolution was an idiot. However, I do understand where you're coming from, however, I don't think atheists are the only victims of it.

I don't know, but that's what they did.

It was free reading time, and I was simply reading my Bible. Then they confiscated it. My parents came and forced them to give me my Bible back though. I've had that Bible since I've been 8 and I've marked all my favorite scriptures and everything.
I blessed my lunch everyday until in third grade I was told by the lunch moniter that it was "offensive." I've never been caught praying over tests and I still do it.
I'm fine with atheists not believing in my religion, and I don't think that schools should preach one religion to be truer than any other, but schools should teach the basic beliefs of all religions. My religion, when taught about, has gotten lies said about it when it's mentioned in any classroom that I've been in, and lies shouldn't be said, and neither should nothing.

What "rights" would be revoked?

Personally, I don't like the ACLU and it was two years ago that they took away my Bible. I've been homeschooled these past two years. All the same, it was quite upsetting to me.
berberry, to tell you the truth, I hadn't thought of that. However, don't you think that they could at least squash popular rumors about religions and give a simple understanding of the basic beliefs of all religions, and maybe go more in depth about basic Christianity, Judaism, Islam and the other predominant ones?

Re: Weekly Religious Education in VA
However, that would also mean that the Jews would go to Mosques and Churches, and the Muslims to Churches and Synagogues on these days. Right?

Re: Weekly Religious Education in VA
Believe me, it isn't as though the Christians aren't the only ones who don't understand other's religions. I admit, they should, and could do better than they are, but everyone needs to understand everyone else's beliefs, and they need to learn it from a unbiases source. True, no one is unbiased, but it is possible to write an unbiases paper, no matter how biased you are.
Then again, you talk of how children who opt not to sit in a classroom doing nothing? I sat in the Hall and do nothing during SexEd, FLASH, HIV/AIDS Education, and STDs Prevention when I was in public school.
