Christ said we will not know the day or the hour when he will come, but he did not say we will not know the year or the season. And he also said to watch for his return and not be taken by surprise.
Bible prophecy is something I do not spend much time studying, but search the internet for some research other people have done. I like Chuck Missler at Koinonia House. My own pastor has covered revelation Home | Berachah Church Rapture Ready | End Times News, Rapture Index, Pre-Tribulation has some interesting things to say. Tim LaHaye's into it, Hal Lindsey has researched it.
I'm sorry that I cannot list all of the prophecies with their references and explanations and how current events are lining up to fulfill them as this would fill a book or two.
A most recent example of current events lining up to fulfill a prophecy would be Babylon. Babylon's destruction was predicted by Daniel. There are five chapters in the old testament that talk about Babylon. Babylon is prophecied to be the headquarters for the antichrist and his one world government. Babylon is also prophecied to have great wealth and then be destroyed in one hour with arrows that have the discernment of a man and never miss their target and be uninhabitable afterwards. People out to sea will witness her destruction and mourn. The whole earth will be shaken from it's foundation.
Babylon is located in Iraq, which has recently become a free nation. During Sadaam Hussein's regime (BTW Sadaam liked to call himself Nebuchadnezzar II) he put lots of money into rebuilding of Nebuchadnezzar's palace and also building up the city of Babylon. In the years ahead, if Iraq is to hold out against all the terrorists that want to take it over, it will have to build up an infrastructure capable of seeking out and eliminating terrorists and probably call on the UN for help (eventually anyone could be labeled terrorists if it fit the govt's purposes... even Christians). The UN currently is dissatisfied with its headquarters in New York and would like to relocate. Some want to relocate to Babylon. The nature of Babylon's destruction fits a nuclear missile strike.
There are other more general signs that point to the end-times being soon such as the fact that technology has made the whole world capable of being ruled by one government. Ecumenism is the order of the day in most places. Israel is once again a nation. Jerusalem is a stumbling block for all the nations as predicted. We have a king of the North (Russia). A king of the East (China and oriental nations). A king of the south (Arab league). And a king of the West (EU + UN + eventual antichrist to unite all). Prophecies of weapons that do not make sense unless compared with today's smart weapons and nuclear weapons. Petra is said to be the refuge for the 144,000 remnant during Armageddon. For some reason the queen of Jordan is stocking the area with supplies. Antisemitism and anti-christianism is on the rise globally. Also, after the tribulation will be 1000 years of peace and perfect environment when Christ will rule on earth. If the Bible is correct, we are around the 6000th year of human history. Perhaps after 6000 years of "work" God will bring the "sabbath" rest for the last 1000.
Anyways... If you want specifics go to someone else who has done the research themselves. At least maybe this will help you know how us "fundies" are leaning.
Edited to add: It is also important to note that we observe how current events ARE LINING UP to fit tribulation prophetic events. We do not claim that the events of the tribulation are already upon us.

Hahahahahahaha!
I love that site! It's a classic. I particularly love the last prediction in the future:
ca. 4,500,000,000 AD The sun will swell into a red giant star, swallowing Mercury, Venus, Earth, and perhaps Mars. This will be the true end of the world!

This site is a monument to human stupidity throughout the ages. It does show one thing though. People everywhere have perpetuated the idea of an end-time. Where did this idea come from?
I also thought the very first thing, the clay tablet, was interesting. It dates to the year the Flood is believed to have happened. The state of affairs at the end times is said to be like those in the days of Noah.

Hangdawg13
This site is a monument to human stupidity throughout the ages.
The more things change the more they stay the same.In my short time on Earth I have been exposed to predictions of end-times a lot and while my father was alive we talked often of the end times claims that he was assured were just around the corner. I think the idea of end times stems from the occurance of uncertainty that comes with major changes in social order or times of war and even the aging of generations as they come to face the nearing of their own mortality.
So I would disagree that it is human stupidity just the human condition that we all must face.

I would say that one of the first big signs that we are really in the final several years will be when we see the Jews start the animal sacrifices again. Then we can pinpoint it to within a few months!

Yep, and London was one of the hardest-hit cities.
The Iran-Contra scandal was being discussed in another thread not long ago. Think of how much time has passed since Ollie North lied to Congress; it isn't so much really. Well, in roughly that same length of time the city of London endured eleven years of one of the most brutal civil wars in history, lost nearly a third of her population to plague and, to top it off, suffered one of the worst fires in history, a conflagration that consumed fully 80% of the city. This final event took place in the year 1666, a year which ends in '666'. Was there ever in the history of Christianity a group of people with more cause to expect that Jesus was about to come back than the Londoners of 1666?
What is it about our time that is so special? Are things today worse than they were in London in 1666? Why do people think things are so bad now that Jesus just has to be coming back right away?

Of course Hal Lindsey has been plugging the idea that the end is near for over thirty years. He hasn't been proven right yet. In fact his readings took a severe blow when the Berlin Wall fell and the USSR collapsed.
Do you have any real evidence that anybody in the UN favours a move of the whole headquarters to Babylon ? Given the current situation it would be completely insane. In fact it would obviously be wrong at any time after the first Gulf War. And hardly sensible even if Iraq was pacified.

Did you
read the plagues' passages in Revelation?
The plagues are successive, the way they were in Exodus with the final one being Armageddon (conveniently located in the Middle East).
You may adapt anything you wish to anything you wish, it is our nature to look for reasons, causes. What has been are mild versions of what is yet to come.
May I recommend a book I found an interesting study help. It is called 'Daniel and the Revelation' by Uriah Smith. I have accessed it on the net in the past, don't know if it is still possible.

Re: hal, pal?
Hangdog13 mentioned Hal Lindsey. The guy I was replying to. In the post I replied to. He mentioned the idea of the UN moving to Babylon, too.
Are you Hangdog13 ? Is your "tip" in the post I replied to (number 16 in this thread) ? If not then I suggest you learn to check the section at the bottom of each post which explicitly shows which message - if any - a post is a reply to. Much better than jumping to the conclusion that a post which quite obviously has nothing to do with one of your messages is, nevertheless, a reply to something you wrote.
And perhaps you'd like to tell me how you came ot the conclusion that pointing out flaws in Hal Lindsey's claims from the '70s is a) "making fun" of him and b) indicates an "issue" with Jesus.

Well, I think many misguided individuals WANT the end-times to be very near as an evangelism tool or simply to get the hell out of this life and into a ressurection body! There is nothing wrong with an objective analysis of scripture and current events to see how they are lining up. Yeah Hal was wrong about some things. Maybe he's learned his lessons. I'm sure he can still come up with some good stuff though. Chuck Missler is my favorite prophecy expert.
Personally, I think the exit-ressurection (rapture) will happen no sooner than 7 years from now and no later than 60 years from now. And that could change as current events move towards or away from the situation predicted in prophecy. But even so, the rapture could happen five minutes from now or 200 years from now.
When the restraining ministry of the Holy Spirit with all Christians are removed from the earth, things can get rolling very quickly. Satan will waste no time in implementing his final plans: first attempting to create a utopia with world peace to prove he is as great as Christ who will do this in the millenium; and failing at that, unbridled violence and destruction.

And then what Hangdawg? I've heard over and over and over again about the 1000 year peace that follows the Tribulation. So what happens in the year Post Trib 1001? What about the kid born too late for the Final JC Peace Tour on December 31st, 1000PT? Shouldn't the Book of Revelation have ended "...and they lived happily ever after, Amen".

Re: ...and then what?
Well, during this thousand years of perfect environment where Christ and returning believers rule the earth, there will STILL be those who reject Him. During this time Satan and all his angels are removed from earth. At the end of the millenium they will be released for a short time and start a Gog/Magog revolution with those people who have rejected God. This rebellion will be immediately put down. Satan and all his angels and all who reject God will be thrown into the "lake of fire". We will sit back and watch as God will destroy the heavens and the earth by fire and create a new heaven and a new earth. Then what happens? God only knows.
