Author | Topic: Are we prisoners of sin | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Why the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20? Exodus 34 is where "he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments." With no seething kids and the like.....
Whether or not this is the case no one can deny the existence of sin. I can, and I just did. I say there is no such thing as a god, so it is impossible to transgress against the will of one of them. There are plenty of actions that are against society and therefore fairly universally frowned upon, but "sin" is a fictional religious concept. That Calvinist BS about humans being "terribly sinful creatures" is nothing but counterproductive to thr rational person who is trying to live a decent life. Right and wrong most certainly exist - we humans are social creatures living next to each other, and we all have various codes of right and wrong. "Sin" is what I reject as a meaningless concept. If this thread is about "sin" it must also be about gods, because the very concept of sin depends on some supernatural entity to {offend/be separated from/disappoint}. I can do something that causes another person pain, and feel bad and experience regret that I did it, and I can try to do better the next time, but all of that can happen without any involvment of imaginary overseers!
but you will not deny that deep down you do believe that sin exists I sure will! Please don't try to tell me what I think, Cedre. You don't know me that well. People just don’t want to give up their sinful ways, because they love being in sin so much, they are enjoying themselves to the fullest and the thought of having to give up all of these pleasures just isn’t thinkable for them. You're projecting your mindset onto me, Cedre. Would you care to describe for the forum which sins Coragyps enjoys so freakin' much? Which pleasures of the flesh I just can't give up? You might want to remember that a good number of the atheists on this board are former Christians. But please save us the reply of, "well, you weren't real Christians." Maybe you could list some specific behaviors that are considered to be a sin. Seething a kid in its mother's milk is certainly one of the REAL Ten Commandment sins. And if that really does extend to chicken-fried steaks, I want nothing to do with such a twisted moral system. Dwise1 says: Well, the entire idea of sin is purely religious and theological and, as such, really doesn't mean anything outside the context of religion.
Cedre replies: I don't think that you are justified in making this quote but you are entitled to it anyway, God gave us a freedom.... Point, set, and match to dwise. Are you really that dense or that blind, Cedre? "It's not religious! God says....!!" Sheesh. Thanks, dwise, for another excellent post. But West Coast Swing? The ghost of Bob Wills may trip you someday.

Okay so at least we agree that without God there aren’t any absolutes, so everything goes that has been accepted and agreed upon by the majority. And any action not in keeping with what has been agreed upon by the group will then have to be amoral/immoral. Yes, that's what people have been telling you for several pages of posts now. Does this have anything to do with being "prisoners of sin," though? And you appear to disapprove of the Aztecs and their murderous ways. How do you feel about Joshua, who "fit the battle of Jerico" and then "utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword." Is that behavior moral or sinful, or is it OK?

The Ten Commandments is one such set of laws which God meant to last forever. Again, Cedre: which set of Ten Commandments? The ones that Moses broke into pieces, or the ones that Exodus 34:28 claims are "the ten commandments?" The ones, y'know, that were carried around in the Ark of the Covenant?

You've never read Exodus 34? You're the one here that puts so much stock in the Bible, Cedre.

Previously, they relied on God for knowledge of right and wrong but afterward they relied on themselves for that knowledge which is why they suddenly decided that nudity was bad. Are you pulling our leg, Peg, or do you really not see this? Hint: what was the name of that tree?

Well c'mon, the tree wasnt magic...it wasn't full of a special potion that suddenly gave them knowledge. It wasnt brain food, It was just a tree. Beg pardon? Have you even read Genesis? Of course it was a Magic Tree. There was a Magic Walking Talking Snake, too. The freakin' text demands it. but the mere fact that we would more willingly commit sinful acts then good acts and find it easier to be bad as apposed to being good,... Speak for yourself, and quit projecting all the time.

The reason why Jesus said that they were the most important is because if one lives by love, they will naturally abide by ALL of Gods other laws. Back away from that shrimp, Peg! We wouldn't want to lose you to Sin!!

Num 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie, Neither the son of man, that he should repent... Exodus 32:14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people... Hmmmm. Cedre, what's that all about?
God has all power on earth, in hell and in heaven, he is all powerful to be sure and you had better not cross him. "Oh, you better watch outYou better not cry You better not pout And I'm tellin' you why..." Wow! Just Wow, Cedre. That's pitiful. When the bible says God is all powerful there are certain limits to his power How can you type that without your head exploding?
