The way, the truth and the life
John 14:6 writes:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
I was just thinking about that before I saw this topic.
I don't see that verse as talking about the "only" way. BostonD likes things logical, so let's look at it this way:
"I am (the way, the truth and the life)."
By simple substitution:
"No man cometh unto the father, but by (the way, the truth and the life)."
I don't see any indication that Jesus is the only way, the only truth or the only life. (Any help from the Greek scholars in our midst?)

People who think they have all the answers usually don't understand the questions.

What about comming back from the dead?
Now thats convincing.
Lots of people come back from the dead. It's practically routine nowadays.

I believe that we as humans never "find" God. He "finds" us.
That's a cute aphorism, but what's it supposed to mean?
If God is omniscient, She shouldn't have to look very hard to find us. So how come some of us never get found? And if She shows up on my doorstep, what kind of logic does it take to accept or reject Her?

Re: Why wasn't I told?
I'm with Stile on this one. I don't think I've ever met anybody who would admit to being a "secular humanist".
Admitting that you attend church is the equivalent of political suicide.
Well, our provincial Premier is a former United Church minister. Tommy Douglas, a former Premier, was a Baptist minister. We had a Catholic priest in the House of Commons not too long ago. Almost every Prime Minister in living memory has been Catholic, some of them quite devout.
Doesn't look suicidal to me.
Politicians might not be as loony as in... um... a certain nearby country... but they are definitely openly religious.

Re: Why wasn't I told?
The fundies are scary to some people because there is a perception - right or wrong - that they will carry over their religious beliefs into government if given the chance. They are the ones who are talking about discriminating against gays, returning capital punishment, etc.
In Canada, we have a more subtle separation of church and state than our neighbours. Any disruption of that status quo makes people uncomfortable. Politicians are welcome to worship in whatever way they choose, and to do it openly. But don't bring it into politics.
(Now you can go back to your topic. )
