A few years ago,I debated with LDS elders who insisted that confirmed remains of Nephite/Lamanite ruins had been discovered and artifacts were on display in the Smithsonian Institute. They said these ruins were in the present U.S.A. Subsequently, the LDS moved the location to Mexico and Central America, and at present, the sites are wandering around Peru. So many people were enquiring after the Smithsonian exhibit, that the Institute offered a series of statements denying any evidence of confirmed ruins and/or artifacts. While the last statement was issued in 1996 (AFAIK), the fact remains that the LDS pushed this line for a number of years.See the debate on the Smithsonian`s statement here LDS apologist John Sorenson’s response to the Smithsonian statement on the Book of Mormon – About The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) And a LDS apologetic here. http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDSFAQ/smithsonian.shtmlAnd more on possible dishonesty with an inside view of the search for BOM origins Book of Mormon thought false by LDS member/archaelogist – About The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon)

Not to wander too far afield, but the tablets given to Moses seem to have gone missing, too.

Re: Pick up at the other BoM thread ?
Get off your high horse. BOM is no more derogatory than talking of the KJV, RSV,NEB, LXX or MT.

I`m really interested in this concept that each Mormon has a planet out there with their name on it. Or is that Scientology? In case of the first, do you have to wear your sacred temple underwear when you go to your own planet?

And spouting propaganda is 'truly seeking answers'?

Re: Question
As far as I can see,Ifen, all these churches, from mainline, to splinter, to fundy are power structures. You toe the line or you get the boot. So much for preaching love. While seeking the true message might be the ideal, what does organisational structure have to do with finding God? Even certain Eastern religions enforce the rules (Buddhist monks, for example)
