That being said, it is apparent to me that creationism is so demeaning to the beautiful, although apparently all too well hidden, real meaning of Christianity an impartial observer may apprehend from the New Testament that it appears a way to seperate those who seek God from God.
The above comment by anglagard prompted the idea for this thread. Anglagard seemed to suggest elsewhere that the central message of the gospel was that people should be good to one another. I myself do not think this is the central message (although it is a sub-message contained in a much larger one)
So what, in a nutshell, is the (message of the NT) Gospel in your own opinion and words. If you think the OT has a supporting role in it then by all means refer to ideas contained in that. It is not necessary that you believe the gospel in order to compose a thumbnail of your understanding of it.
If there are any elements in your take on what the Gospel is which would imply mechanisms at work then perhaps and outline of what is supposed to happen and how the basic cogs of the mechanism achieve that, would be helpful.
My aim is primarily that the thread be a place to get a view of the various views in a one-stop-shop fashion - I've generally only heard peoples views in piecemeal fashion so far. Debate if it occurs is fine however
Could I also suggest, should the thread take off at all, is that modifications by way of clarification and expansion of ones views during the thread be (also) edited within the framework of ones original opening postional post. This, so as arrive at as complete a statement as to your understanding of the gospel message in a single statement.
AbE
SEE MY MSG 46.. for an example of what I mean by way of gospel in a nutshell (its less about whether you agree with me and more to do with presenting your own for consideration

Needs Better Title
quote:
So. What in a nutshell is the message of the gospel in your opinion.
This seems to be what you want, your title doesn't bring that out.
Suggestions:
The Gospel in a Nutshell
The Gospel on One Foot
Message of the Gospel: Your Opinion
I'm assuming Faith and Belief for this one.

That's what I meant, expressed better than I did.

uuhhh...open a business, put little fish on your business cards, and sell snake...err annointing oil in the mail?
No...actually I agree with the last two guys...there really isnt a whole lot more that can be said.

Gradually it was disclosed to me that the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either, but right through every human heart, and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. Even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained; and even in the best of all hearts, there remains a small corner of evil. --Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago

What about the rest of humanity? Treat them however you wish?

In one way or another, yes. Some of us are the least intelligent, some of us have the worst health, some of us are the least wealthy, etc.
It's easy to treat Donald Trump like a god - it's harder to treat the homeless guy in the doorway the same way. It's easy to love your children when they're being cute - it's harder when they're sick and whiny.
The idea is to treat everybody the same, regardless of whether it's easy or hard, regardless of whether you hope to get something in return.
As jar put it: love others as you love yourself. If you want to be cared for when you're sick, do the same for others. If you want to be fed when you're hungry, do the same for others.

The Gospel according to Mr. Dictionary
Websters writes:
1leastadj 1 : lowest in importance or position 2 : smallest in size or degree 3 : slightest
Ideally, there are no "least" among us. It is human nature to assign importance to people, however. Our Mother is more important than our tax preparer or our barber...you know? If a theoretical lifeboat had our Mom, our wife, our kids, a street guy from Chicago, and Angelina Joile on board and was too heavy, who would have to go? (Thats another topic, almost!)
The least of these could include Iraqi civilians killed by collateral damage. The least of these could include Illegal immigrants. The least of these could include you or I.
