Allow me to rephrase the question slightly just for the purposes of argument. "If I lie about something and you agree with me about the lie and we convince a whole bunch of people to go along with the lie, does that make the lie appear to be true?"
Emphatically, YES ... especially in politics and religion ... not to mention sales.
Now, does the nearly universal appearance of truth constitute truth? Whatever works.
