I am with Troy on this one. I was dreading the passing of the pope, as I knew it would be tying up an ungodly amount of newspaper space. And thank god I dont watch TV news.
So far as I can tell, the best thing we can say about this Pope is that he wasn't corrupted by royal politics or gilded bribes, unlike so many before him. Reports of his grand role in destroying Communism are greatly overstated. But if Al Gore invented the internet, I guess the Pontiff can end world communism.
If JP had just gotten the picture that it was time to take catholicism into the modern age, he would have been the greatest Pope ever. Instead, we get no condoms and no masturbation. (The latter is amusing, if inconsequential, while the former is no laughing matter).
Don't get me wrong, I do lament the passage of an incredibly well educated man with a really cool hat, I just wish he could have done more.
BTW, the Necronomicon isn't actually a real book.

Evil? Maybe.
R,
I was kidding about Al Gore. What I meant is that once the exaggeration game is done, the Pope will have been able to heal cancer victims and shoot laser beams from his eyes.
Just out of curiousity, what makes you say he was evil? I think 'human' is a more appropriate epitaph.
