quote:
The first statement... can you get me a statistic of how many people are not "religious"? Because it appears to me that almost the whole world could be considered this, except Atheists I suppose.
About 15% of Americans classify themselves as "Not religious". Note that this does not include "non-denominational Christians" - these are people who are not religious at all. It's not just America - check out Uraguay, for example.
quote:
Really now... hmm are you postively sure about that last statement? I would like to see a little proof. Obviously they weren't living their lives like Christians if they were in prison. If we happen to go be statistics we hear, well, last year I heard that 50% of the world claim they are Christians, out of the 50%, how many of them do you think actually really believe? There is a difference between talking the talk and walking the walk... if you get what I mean.
Out of the 50%, how many really believe? All 50%, otherwise they wouldn't have answered that way.
Besides, who are *you* to judge who is a "true Christian"? Other people are just as likely to judge you as not being a true Christian for choices you've made in your life, or things that you believe.
Have you never sinned? I would be that many prisoners know the meaning of pennance more than you could ever imagine. Most of them truly believe in their hearts in Jesus, and believe in God, and have faith - and know that they have "sinned". Given this, remember John 3:16.
Overall, remember Matthew 7:1.
P.S. - the number of Christians worldwide isn't close to 50%. There are 1.8 billion Christians in the world, which has 6 billion people. Islam has about 1 billion believers, and is the world's fastest growing. Hinduism has 730 million, and Buddhism 315 million. It goes down from there.

Messenjah, thank you for replying.
Many. I picked christianity over others because God has called me to do so.
How has god called you to do so (physically how) ? A little more detail then
Prayer, life, fate. It all culminates together to create one big picture.
would be appreciated.

The big picture is Jesus Christ.....
Search through this forum in page 1 or 2 or maybe 3, I expressed my beliefs in detail there.

Oh, kind of misread your question. What can I say? The things I said are all I can say, through my life, what has happened through the course of my life, paths my life has taken, when I pray, I am answered, believe it or not.

It's also true that the prisons are filled with believers, not Athiests.
I'm afraid you will have to be more specific when saying "believers", atheists are believers too.
I realize you are referring to religious people so I'll respond.
What does that matter? Everyone sins. What special about that? Trying to use one statistic to prove religion/christianity is evil? Won't work.

Religion/Christianity is not evil per se since evil is not an absolute. However there are instances where the sensibilities of christians become warped. One that comes to mind immediately is Jonestown.

Incorrect.
The entire point behind atheism is to have no belief.
Yes, yes...we all know that theists want everyone to believe that atheism is a religion, but that's simply because they cannot conceive of somebody who has transcended that desire to believe.
There is an object on my bathroom counter.
Tell me what you believe about it.
Did you have any beliefs about it before you were told that it existed?

Yes, according to christians, Jesus did (briefly) die for your sins. The christian belief is that Jesus=God, therefore He can do anything, including taking all the sins of the whole world on himself at one instant in time. That's the doctrine, believe it or not!

Rei, I have noticed you have been inappropiately interupting this thread, directing negativity towards my comments. If you don't have anything good to post, that will help towards the discussion of this thread, post nothing at all.

No, we have no belief that there is a God. Making us non-believers. Is this a distinction you're having trouble with?

In continuation of post 171 we also have people who call themselves christians who go to faith healers. These faith healers have been shown to use subterfuge and radio communication to decieve people into believing the faith healer was in touch with God.
