I just read an interesting article at pharyngula on the possible origins of lactation in mammals.
No, I do not have a breast fetish (at least not to the point where I have trouble holding down a job); over the last few years I have developed a keen interest in two important points in the evolutionary history of our species: the evolution of the first tetrapods, and the evolution of the first mammals.
Anyway, the article tells how the components of milk are very similar to anti-bacterial secretions in the normal immune system of vertebrates, and how lactation is very similar to an inflammation response.
Since this is not a debate thread, I won't gloat at how this (yes, you can hear it coming) "just-so story" is good support for evolution over creationism, however the implications are obvious, I should think.
