Hi,Zeph, when Leonard Woolley excavated Tell el Mukkayer, he hit the jackpot. In the royal cemetery, remains of over 2000 bodies bedecked with gold and silver artifacts
were uncovered. With the penchant for hauling everything home that bedevilled early archaeology, I`m not sure how much finished up in Iraq. Maybe a fair bit was repatriated later. The Iraqi Museum had it on display till that looting episode occured. While much was recovered, I think that over 12000 items are still missing. Still, the museum should be worth a visit.
Keep your vest on and your head down. :-)
