From Genesis Buz.
Eve's punishment was to have to serve the inferior.....the superior serving the inferior....what a brilliant punishment by God. How else would you interpret the passages in question ? (thats rhetorical Buz)
Next issue :
The entire O.T. was but a shadow of the substance of Christ. This is first year seminarian stuff....and no Jesus did not ever cut His hair or His beard as per the "shadows" of Levitical Law.
The Sermon on the Mount has Jesus declaring "...behold I say..." as He changed the Law to a more impossible perfectionist standard of even desiring to do sin. He is the Law Incarnate and the fact that the veil of the Temple was torn upon His death means God judged His life to be perfect in fulfilling every jot and tittle of the Law.

Negative: One of the reasons Judas pointed Him out was because His hair was not cut - thats why He needed to be identified. (not to mention Judas choosing to betray Him)

Mike :
My position comes from the text in Genesis. Adam was a pussy whipped spineless excuse for a man. Satan knew if he got Eve - she would procure Adam.
Once again, I applaud God for the brilliance of the cleverness of His punishment - the superior having to serve the inferior - thats the facts whether you or anyone admit it or not. You ought to shake yourself and get out of this lethargic Biblical interpretation rut.

I have heard the teaching that there were really two elements of the law the rules and the sacrifices. Sacrifices had to be done yearly, because clean animal blood could not atone for the continuing sin of man which is why Jesus came to confirm the law. He became the first priest of the new order. By definition he was the first in the line of the priests from the tribe of David with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He did not have any followers ie potential mates until after he was dead as by definition the Holy Spirit did not come down until after Jesus was resurrected and told his disciples not to wait. No one was worthy to take his place as the bride of Jesus. Levitical law required priests to marry within their own clan. And no one was baptized in the HS until after the death of J. Now we are all his bride as part of the church once baptized into the name of J.
I don't see a problem with the ceremony. God is the great I am. He witnesses to himself.
Don't get twisted and call it gay.

The evidence for Jesus being married is in the Bible.
The one consistent figure in the resurrection stories is Mary Magdelene. She is depicted as being one of the women sent to annoint his body after his death. This was a task reserved to relatives of the deceased. She calls him raboni the intimate form of the title Rabbi. First century rabbis were required to be married and he is consistently referred to by this title. Jesus commands Mary not to cling to him, in Jewish custom women may only touch related men. At the Wedding at Cana, Jesus is present with his mother and best friends. The only time that was likely would be his wedding.
Besides if Jesus was sent to Earth to live as a human being and suffer as a human wouldn't part of that include learning to love as a human including all the pain and heartache associated with that? Isn't part of being human falling in love?

Eve
quote:
if Eve's punishment is for her and her line to serve men
The OT is very good at saying what is to continue from generation to generation etc.
Oddly enough, no matter how many times I read the part on Adam and Eve's punishment, not once does it say that either of their individual punishments were to continue to their descendants or to the next generation.
Genesis 3:16
To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."
Reads rather singular don't you think?

A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Re: Eve
My, my, purpledawn, what an interesting observation!
A less interesting observation is how literalists will read the exact words (of the King James English version) when it suits their purpose, and interpret the verse and extend its meaning when that suits their purpose.

Re: Eve
KJV Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
I have seen that translation also.
Torah Genesis 3:18-19 Thorns and thistles shall it sprout for you. But your food shall be the grasses of the field; by the sweat of your brow shall you get bread to eat, until you return to the ground For from it you were taken.
Imagine if we took Adam's punishment literally.
No meat for men! Atkins would not be happy.

No Meat?
Not really the subject, but the whole eating grasses thing was overuled after the flood:
"Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything" - Genesis 9 v.3
The rules about kosher food were developed later.

I like your answer
very much, Mike. You are correct in your deliberation that the reason Jesus was not married is because........his purpose was salvation, and no other.
He also chose a woman to bring the news of his resurrection to the disciples, knowing only too well what the status of women was during that time. The bride spoken of in Revelation is his church, she wears a crown .....etc. Marriage was/is an institution designed for a man and woman to find love and security in each other. Jesus did not need that.
If this is ONLY your opinion, you show great insight and learning.
Thank you. You have made my day.

Anyone
can be a disciple, and not just a disciple of Christ.
Original sin is a Catholic concept, where it originated. If you read the story of the fall carefully, you will find that Eve surrendered to temptation, but Adam's sin was deliberate. The difference is acute. Then he whined and cried and said......'the woman you gave to me made me do it'. Blaming the woman for the choice he made and God for giving him the woman. We are so indoctrinated that careful consideration must be given to what is actually being said, vs. what some ism says it says.
As for no female Catholic priests? The RCC is a boy's club, good old boys.
Much of protestantism is her offshoot.
