I might be a little late on this one, but the Mt. Sinai in the Sinai peninsula isn't the "real" Mt Sinai. I've been to it and climbed to the top.
The real Mt Sinai is actually on a mountain called Jabal al Lawz in Saudi. There is currently a Saudi missle defense system built around that mountain, so don't bother getting a visa to go visit.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8

I'll read up on it a bit later. As far as disputing if Jabal al Lawz is the real Mt Sinai, we'll never know unless the Saudis:
A) Let Archeologists in country to visit. As far as I know you (non Saudis) are only allowed in country for 4 reasons: 1)Visit Mecca 2)Converting to Islam and want to live there forever 3)Business 4)Allied Military on offical busiess.
B) Take down the missle defense base (missle defense shield?) they have built on/around that mountain.
My official opinion is that the current Mt Sinai (The one St Catherine found with the monestary at its base near Sharm El Sheik) is NOT the real Mt Sinai and Jabal Al Lawz is a good candidate. I can't imagine the argument being much more cut and dry than that.
