i don't understand why ray uses Velikovsky anyway I think it is only because Gene Scott recommended Velikovsky. Brian.

Hi Ray,
Hows the 'science' paper coming along? If it is finished could you comment on these points?
Pharoah during David's reign = Thutmose II. There has to be other pharaohs Ray as David's reign was 40 years. Thutmosis II only reigned for 12 or 13 years (the first year MAY have been a co-regency)so who were the other Pharaohs?
Velikovsky says it was Rehoboam, but other scholars (Danelius) have pointed out that this is untenable since Rehoboam would not be in Israel helping the person (Jeroboam) who rent most of his kingdom from him. I think common sense dictates that the claim that Rehoboam was at Megiddo is just nonsense, I am surprised Gene Scott entertained this for a second. Now, since Velikovsky is demonstrably incorrect about Rehoboam fighting at Megiddo, do you accept that he could also be wrong about other things?
The issue is unresolved due to conflicting data. What issue is unresolved?
Also, I never have told you who the Pharoah of the Exodus was: Adikam. He was preceded by Pepi II. Ray this gets more ridiculous with every post! Pepi II reigned nearly 1300 years before Solomon, so it makes a mockery of 1 Kings 6:1. The Ipuwer papyrus sure has initiated a lot of conspiracy theories. Any Egyptian sources to support the existence of Pharaoh Adikiam? Remember that Jewish legends are not categorised as an Egyptian source.
I would be very interested in what you think about this. Simply more inane Velikovskian drivel. If you are still busy, could you at least tell me who the other pharaohs were during David's reign or have you realised how faulty this theory is as well? Brian

Sefer Ha Yashar in the Midrash states that the pharaoh of the Oppression had a ninety-four year reign. The majority of Egyptian scholars identify the only pharaoh with a ninety plus reign as Pepi 2.

And the Midrash is dated to?
How does Pepi 2 fit in with 1 Kings 6:1?

I take it you are using the King James Bible? Have you considered the possibility of a miscalculation of the number of years in 1 Kings 6:1? Sefer Ha Yashar mentions an incident when Pepi 2 was eight years old an african pygmy was introduced to his court. Harkhuf in his funeral autobiography details a letter from Pepi 2 instructing him to take special care of the African pygmy as Harkhuf traveled to Pepi 2's court. Ask a rabbi what year the Midrash is dated.

The Midrash is dated to the 13th century, if not later.
so.. a story about pepi the second means what? it was nearly two thousand years after the event, i'm not sure if that makes it worth anythingits not a contemperary document to that time so why would a book dated long after the event be useful? the funny thing is i can't find anything on this at all can you please provide any evidence of this in the midresh?{abe:nm i found something, but it all appears to be conjecture and not really evidence, its a foot note! 3. Sefer HaYashar and The Prayer of Asenath (an ancient pseudepigraphical work) contain this information, though Sefer HaYashar only gives the 94 year reign length without Malul's age. - even that is conjecture, its talking about a reign not a life span!} This message has been edited by ReverendDG, 04-14-2006 03:30 AM

take it you are using the King James Bible? I use various Bibles, I have yet to see one that gives a different figure from 480 years in any Bible. Do you know of any?
Have you considered the possibility of a miscalculation of the number of years in 1 Kings 6:1? Yes. But it isn't just 1 Kings 6:1 that causes difficulties for Pepi being the pharaoh of the Exodus, Exodus 1:11 is terminal for Pepi as well as every piece of archaeological information we have. Also, for Pepi to be the pharaoh of the Exodus means the period of the Judges would be stretched to over 1200 years.

In England (and apparently Jockland too ) when somebody makes a statement that is unconnected with the matter being discussed - even though it may be technically accurate or correct - you respond by saying "But what that's got to do with the price of cheese?" Brian seems to be updating the tradition to actually quoting the price of cheese. I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

"But what that's got to do with the price of cheese?" Ah, okay, what I've always heard is people asking, "and what has that got to do with the price of tea in China." Interesting the variance. lfen

Must be a UK thing Damn Brits can't get anything right: they can't spell, they confuse cheese with tea ... They are probably teaching their kids that we were throwing Roquefort into the Boston Harbor a couple hundred years back.
