Do Christians even reflect on the things the Bible says? Take for example the thought process of this:
1) God creates Earth, man, animals, etc.
2) God tells Adam and Eve to not eat from the tree of knowledge
3) Duped by Satan they do in fact eat from the tree
4) Mankind is punished by God and original sin is introduced
5) God later appears on Earth in the shape of a man on the cross to absolve this sin
The question is, why would God do this? Why would he need to die on the cross to convince himself to absolve original sin? What would be the purpose? Does the bible mention anything about God having multiple personalities?
This brings me to the point of this thread, please list any examples that you have of the Bible making God (or Moses or whoever) out to look unreasonably dumb. Another good example was made by Brian in the "Why would Mary ask this" thread...concerning why Mark would make out Jesus' family to think he maybe crazy (Mark 3:20-21) considering they were aware of his birth to a virgin and his foretold coming from an angel, etc.

Re: Really Dumb Means Cannot Think For Oneself
How true, I mean, how many people does Satan kill or demand his followers kill in the Bible....none. YHWH on the other hand can't kill enough, I mean this God has to be the most blood-thirsty monster of all time...according to the Bible anyway.

Re: reflections
Take for example the thought process of this:
1) God creates Earth, man, animals, etc.
Peter-"Upon reflection, verse indicates animals were made before man."
May want to look again Ace, Gen 2:7 man is created, Gen 2:19 animals are created...hmmm. upon reflection, verse indicates man was created before animals...not that it matters to the point of this argument.
2) God tells Adam and Eve to not eat from the tree of knowledge
Peter-"Upon reflection, verse indicates God told man about the tree and then made woman later."
Again, (upon reflection) check Gen 2:2-3 it shows that Eve had a clear understanding that God instructed her not to eat from the tree. Seems as if Peter only made it through the first chapter of the Bible! I know it's boring Peter, but stick with it and keep reading...you may actually learn something!
3) Duped by Satan they do in fact eat from the tree
Peter-"Upon reflection verse indicates Eve was decieved, Adam was not decieved but obeyed Eve's offering."
You don't believe that Adam was decieved, huh? Upon further reflection I'm starting to realize that Peter is not very good at this kind of thing...
4) Mankind is punished by God and original sin is introduced
Peter-"Upon reflection, verse indicates what a man sows he shall reap.
IE, Peter says to Revenge of Reason, don't jump off a cliff.
Revenge for Reason jumps off a cliff and is injured, you're not punished by Peter for jumping. Your injured cause you jumped off the cliff, nitwit."
Huh?
And nitwit is a bit of a harsh term, don't you think?
In fact, I'll stop right there. Peter has made such a convincing case for himself that I really don't have anything else to add! 'Cept....hahahaha

Re: reflections
I'm sorry everyone. Upon further reflection I realize that the previous post was a little childish of me! Sorry all.

Willow-"Christ's family THOUGHT He was crazy. The scripture means what it says. They thought He was crazy BECAUSE they didn't believe what they were told about Him."
You are not making any sense. Do you mean that Mary did not believe what the Angel told her? Are you suggesting that she forgot that she had a baby without ever having sex? Please elaborate.
Willow-"You are asking WHY Jesus/God died on the cross ? Why don't you a least get a 101 theological education and come back."
I assume by this comment that you are suggesting I get a "Christian" 101 theological education? I mean, you realize that if I took Theology 101 in say Pakistan I still would have no idea why Jesus/God died on the cross. Oh right, right yours is the only one true God, my bad....
Willow-"Christians do make God look dumb - you are so correct. But even dumber are the idiots who believe God to be dumb because of the dumbness of christians."
Agreed.
Willow-"All infants who die go directly to the lap of Jesus - period."
Would this include those children that the Christian God caused to be eaten by their own parents (LE 26:29, DT 28:53, JE 19:9, EZ 5:8-10, 2 KI 6:28-29)? Or the children that God commands to be slain (Ez 9:4-6 or any countless other passages)? Or how about the children that God took as sacrifices (EZ 20:26)? It appears your God does love children...for dinner!

Willow "IF the Bible is/contains the word of God then why did He include the events you referenced ?You cannot have it both ways, the Bible being His word in order to point out seemingly evil things and then the Bible not being His word when it might place a claim on your life."
As usual I am having difficulty understanding you Willow. I am not sure what you mean by the above statement, but for the record I do not belive any of what the Bible says is the word of God.
Willow "You need to specifically pick something that you think that God has done something evil."
Is this a request for passages in which God does something "evil" in the Bible? If so I would direct you to GE 1:29, Lev 25:44-46, mark 16:17, Deu 21:18-21, Num chapter 31, and Ez 9:4-6 as a few that I can gather together right now.
Willow "Mary didn't grasp the reality of exactly who her Son was. When He started His ministry they had completely forgotten that Jesus was here to go about His Father's business."
You are asserting that by the time Jesus started his ministry, Mary and Joseph forgot the whole virgin birth, angel visistation thing? As well as the countless other visits from angels? That is your stance, really? There is probably not a person in the USA over the age of 10 that has forgotten that Mary suppossedly gave birth as a virgin, yet you would like to argue that Mary herself forgot this fact?
all I can say is....WOW.
