Well, to see if the Bible is written by God or not, why dont we look in the Bible? Here are a few key texts:
'Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophets own interpretation. For propecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.' -2 Peter 1:20-21
'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.' -2 Timothy 3:16
'Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.' -Psalm 119:105
'Every word of God is flawless, he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.' -Proverbs 30:5
'And we thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.' -1 Thessalonians 2:13
That should settle this debate. The Bible itself states that it is the word of God.

The Bible also says, in other places, that God will do whatever you ask that is IN HIS WILL. God is not a magician that does what you want. He is eternal, all powerful and all knowing. He can see what is best. Jesus says that a father would give his child food if they need it, just like God will give us whatever we need. He is NOT a magic charm to be pulled out of a box when we want a bit of luxury.

you might also like to read my reply to 'DrJones' - do you believe it when on the front of a book it says 'By so and so'? If so, whats the difference with these statements from the Bible?

Humans did physically write the Bible, but their words were inspired by God. please point out a falsehood in the Bible for my benefit.

Peter, the disciple of Jesus, wrote these words. He knew Jesus personally when he was here on earth. So he had more to rely on apart from just the prophets words. No, prophets are not perfect, no one is perfect except for Jesus. But their words in the Bible were inspired by God.

Another thing that proves that God wrote the Bible is the timespan it was written over and its various authors. The Bible consists of 66 books, written over a time period of thousands of years, by over 40 different authors that usually didnt know each other. Yet the whole Bible agrees! Their thoughts have got to be coming from a Divine, Eternal, Infinite Source.

The flood DID happen, and that is why we have many of the landforms we have today, without the billions of years theory. This belief is called Catastrophism, as opposed to Uniformatarianism. Catastrophism says that the earthly landscape was changed gradually by erosion, but also by things like floods, earthquakes and volcanoes. This has been observed when Mount st Helens erupted and formed a canyon with extremely similar features to the Grand Canyon, but on a scale of about 1 fortieth. An unknowing geologist would have said that this canyon took billions of years to be formed.

I did not say that each book was written by a different author. Yes, Paul did write a lot of the New Testament, and his writings are some of my favourite and most inspirational in the Bible. As for books that were not included, I believe that they were not inspired by God. Point out for me an inconsistency in the Bible.

Re: Let us gently explain
Nothing you say will convince me otherwise. If we go by your theory, nothing can be proven right or wrong, therefore nothing is right, and nothing is wrong. See the holes?

Re: Let us gently explain
Lets make a little timeline
4000-1000BC(approximately) - Scripture was written, inspired by God
0-30 AD (approximately)- Jesus lived on earth
30 AD onwards - people who knew Jesus wrote saying that the scripture (written 4000 years ago) was inspired by God

I did not ignore 90% of your post. The books which did not agree were left out because they werent inspired by God. They were assembled by men, who were inspired by God. The authors did know about some of the earlier books, but what difference does that make? The four Gospels were written by four different men, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Some of them knew Jesus, and presented an eyewitness account, while others wrote stories they had heard from others. They were men of different educations-Matthew was a tax collecter, Luke was a doctor, John was a fisherman, and I think Mark was a scribe. So of course each of them would have a different writing style. It's like comparing the writings of a person with a phd to those of a kindergarten student.
