Re: Surviving tribe
No you are not just reporting a story - why pose the question "I don't know if they were christians?" otherwise?

Re: duh.
quote:
Most of the times, ussually, when bad things happen, guess what. GOD DIDN'T DO IT!!!! We did, and so did nature. God had a really nice system going, but we sinned, so god let it become a mess as punishment for our sins. God does not wan't people to goto hell but he cannot do anything against his nature. He has 2 basic natures:
1. Just
2. Loving
If what you say is true about the nature of God, then you must reject the notion that He is also all-powerful.
A just and loving God that was also all-powerful would not allow all of the innocent, blameless people, especially the infants and children, die in the multitude of ways that they do every day.
So, either God is all-powerful and chooses to not save the infants from a horrible death, OR he is just and loving, but not powerful enough to stop their suffering and death.
...of course, maybe you have a different idea of justice and love than I do.
quote:
He cannot reject one or the other. So he sen't his son on the cross to carry out his justice, and at the same time, so his love. All you have to do is accept. IT IS SO EASY.
OK, if believing something like that is SO EASY, why don't you start believing in Zeus.
IT IS SO EASY!
quote:
So if you find yourself burning up in hell, it's your own falt[sic].
So, I thought the Bible said that Jesus died for all of us?
Also, why would God make me with a skeptical mind, knowing that I would doubt his existence, if he was just going to send me to eternal torment and torture?
Sounds like a sadist, that God.
quote:
God did everything he could for you.
He did? Wow, God isn't very powerful the way you describe Him.
quote:
He isn't gona[sic] pop out a[sic] know where and say "FOLLOW ME". That makes sense ya know.
Why does it make sense?
quote:
Just follow your children around all day and make sure they still love you.
God sounds emotionally needy, too.
quote:
Wouldn't you rather them chose to love you without you popen[sic] out all over the place trying to re-inforce it.
How does a parent encorage a loving relationship with their child?
1) Telling the child often that they love them.
2) Showing the child, through their actions, that they care about them and are concerned with their well-being (feeding them, making sure they are warm and safe, teaching them, listening to them, etc.)
3) Making sure the rules of conduct are very clearly laid out, are age-appropriate and fully understood, and the discipline fits the offense, and is consistently applied, never in anger. The child should always completely understand why they are being disciplined.
I think that God is a pretty poor parent.
quote:
God is not MAGIC, he is god.
How do I tell the difference between God's actions and magic?
quote:
Is computer programming magic? No. Does everything on the computer happen naturaly from things that already exist no, not when the aumnipatant [sic] programmer sits down at C++ and makes new laws.
A human programmer is not omnipotent.
They cannot make their computer turn into, say, a tree using C++.
Therefore, they are not omnipotent.
quote:
The universe is a creation of god, it is designed to be logical and we are designed to think logicaly,
No, actually, we aren't programed to think very logically.
We are programed to think pragmatically and to make quick, practical judgements about if something is dangerous, or if it is likely to be food, etc.
That's why the scientific method is so powerful and so useful; it accounts for and compensates for the multitude of very pervasive, natural human biases and thought errors that we are all prone to. Critical thinking skills have to be taught for the most part; they are not inborn.
Check out the following site to see a short discussion of the numerous logic and thought errors we humans regularly employ:
Logical Fallacies - Critical Thinking Mini-lesson - The Skeptic's Dictionary - Skepdic.com
quote:
but sometimes, we don't know what were[sic] doing and we jump to errounous conclusions such as "Hey, everything just poped[sic] out of no where for no reason" when in fact it was god.
In fact?
Which facts can you show me that are evidence that God did that?
quote:
Please forgive me of my mispellings but I type 2 paragraphs in like 20 secconds so I don't notice it much, and I don't have time to think cause I am typing so much. So that's why I leave out alot of information sometimes.
Perhaps thinking more and typing less would be better, then, no?
And there is this wonderful feature of most word processing programs called a spell checker.
Like it or not, the perception one has of the author of writing that contains many spelling and grammar errors is that they are careless, not terribly well-educated, or a young kid.
It is a good practice to learn to write well.
DO you think it should be like this:
God: Hey you wan't to come to heaven with me, just accept my son's substitue punishment for your sin.
Man: No.
God: No, I am forcing you to come to heaven with me.
No, I don't think it's like that, it's more like this:
God: Hey you wan't to come to heaven with me, just accept my son's substitue punishment for your sin.
Me: God isn't here in front of me saying that. Some person is telling me that their holy book says that, and that all the other holy books are wrong and his is right, except that he doesn't have any more evidence that his is right than any of the others, so how do I know who is correct?

"History I believe furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose."--Thomas Jefferson

Re: Surviving tribe
To point out that we don't know why people die or live sometimes.
I feel they survived for the same reason they claimed in the article.
*edit*
To also help explain to buzaw that it wasn't God's wrath, and we can't judge if it was.
If that tribe wasn't Christian, then why did God spare them, if he feels God poured out his wrath on all those people over there.
Or are they just not part of buz's end time scenerio.

Re: Interesting
quote:
As for your other comment, yes the woman was an ass for saying that, but your reply indicates you didn't understand what she meant. She meant that people over there got what they got because they are unrighteous. Then she preceeded to give examples of Americas unrighteousness and implie that we are next. Not that what we do has any effect on what happened over there.
River rat, I hope you are not in league with that wicked woman, because as I read and re-read her quote I really want to force her to retract those words. How could she be so cruel, calling all those tsunami victims at Aceh, Srilanka, and elsewhere as unrighteous? Their ghosts would really get her for this...
Another reason for me not to like that kind of Xtians.

Oh my gosh, we agree with something!
I find the attitude that those people who died were being punished by god repugnant.

Re: Try reading the Bible.
Heck, I can even point out that you can use the bible to show that Jesus
did not bring salvation, and that Jesus is not the son of God.
After all, Mathew 9.6 states that Jesus is a son of man.
and Numbers 19:23 says 'God is not a man that he should lie, and god is not the son of man, that he should repent'. So, god is not the son of man.
And,
Psalm 146.3 Put not your trust in Princes, or in the son of man, in whom there is no salvation.

Re: Try reading the Bible.
quote:
Of course I can. One of the greatest things about the Bible is that you can find verses to support ANY belief. That is why it can only be used as a Map. And a Map is not the territory.
Check Mathew 25:31-46
31: When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34: Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37: Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38: When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39: Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40: And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41: Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44: Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45: Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46: And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
In addition, if you continue reading Ephesians 2 you will find in the very next line...
10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
The Bible is great. Using it you can prove anything you want.
But Jesus message was simple, Love GOD and love others as you love yourself.
GOD will welcome all, believer and non-believer when the end-time does come. The recent earthquake has nothing to do with theology or prophecy, it was an Earthquake caused tsunami. That's all. A tragedy of great magnitude made worse because the US among other wealth nations did not spend the tiny amount that would be needed to build a world-wide tsunami warning system.
What is worse is that we are facing an even bigger tsunami with even greater loss of life when La Palma in the Canaryies collapses. And regardless of what is in the Bible, La Palma will collapse. Now that is a better prophecy than any in the Bible. All it lacks is an accurate time. But with science, we will soon even be able to make a better estimate of the time.
When we accept jesus into our heart as our savior we become the rightioness of god.
Verse 10, once again states that we are suppost to do good works anyway. However, we are filthy sinners, that's is why we must accept jesus christ into our heart as our savior, so that we may become the rightioness of god. You have failed to contradict.

Re: Try reading the Bible.
It's talking about two different things when Jesus says he is the son of man it is very different then what other versus are talking about.
The only reason why people find ways to prove anything in the bible is by twisting it and mis interpeting it to suit themselves.
quote:
Naw, it's like this:
God: Go ask that person if they wan't to be a part of my kingdom.
Servant: Ok, do you wan't to be a part of god's kindom.
Person: No, God is not real, if so, howcome he didn't show himself.
Servan: Because, you are suppost to believe through faith and because you wan't to.
Person: Well I don't.
God speaks through people.

A lot of secularists would agree with you, but I'm not sure I do. The thinking goes that since the US had the ability to see to it that a better world-wide warning system was in place that we should have done so. Agree or disagree, if that's what you meant by political reasons I see your point.
