We are dead to the law in regard to salvation. In other words, we are not saved by the law but by Christ's death. The NT is simply a guideline of what we do to honor God. If we dishonor him, we ask for and receive forgiveness and that is how Jesus takes away our sins. Whereas in the Old covenant, the Jews had to obey the law for salvation. We no longer have to. Since Christ paid the penalty for our sins, we now honor the law out of love, gratitude and thankfulness for what God has done for us, not for salvation. And that's why Christ's death frees us from bondage and instead gives us love and gratitude.
