Re: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts?
Let me know if I am misrepresenting you here Brad.
I only wanted to point out that turning this topic against creationsim by BLAMING A GOD you may not believe is better left to figuring out what the causation is actually that my bind a group of psedogenes.
You are right, we must define the causation. Mutational hotspots and such could cause multiple mutations in separate events to look alike. From my reading, I doubt this is the case though. There could be another mechanism out there, but so far science hasn't seen it. Viral excisement still wouldn't make sense being that this event is somewhat "sloppy" and would leave a fingerprint.
Further research is needed, of course, and current protocols and methodology are increasing everyday. Who knows, maybe there is that magical silver mutation bullet out there, but so far we have to go with the evidence at hand which points to pretty mutational events.

no, you didnt misrepresent. That is pretty much what I meant. "my" was supposed to have been "may", indeed!

Hi Mamuthus and thanks for the welcome:
Mamuthus:
Hi judge,
long time no see. Welcome back.
I am familiar (way too familiar) with Peter Borger's musings. However, I don't think he could be taken as having a mainstream position on mutation or genomics wrt creationism.
Judge:
Hmm...I tend to agree. My take is a little complicated , but I beleive that AIG (for example) go astray by seeing there being no death at al prior to the fall.
This view, that even animals were not destined to die from the start may lead thinking that somehow things were perfect before the fall.
This is not the view taken by Augustine who perhaps more than any other theologian tried to articulate the state of pre-fall man and in doing so infer how it differed from the other animals.
I tend to think that AIG would do well to incorporate Augustines understanding rather than the one they have at present.
