Re: Thread Reopened
Percy,
It is hard to enjoy something when discussions are always shut down.
I understand the need to moderate but discussions can and do get rancorous. It is hard to always be placed within a box.
Other sites such as the former Newsmax.com forum or the present Boottotheskull.com allow a great deal of more freedom. But, of course, it is your right to have your "rules". But keep in mind that rules can cost a site a great deal of traffic loss.
I have to leave under the circumstances. I wish all well and may we debate again, as I had only just begun !
Wise
See you at the boot !

Thread Moderation
While I suspect we might normally agree on a great many things, I have to disagree with you here. While it is true that rules can cost a site a great deal of traffic loss, lack of rules can also cost traffic, and more importantly quality of posts and participants. Many of us do not want to weed through a completely unmoderated thread, so the only ones who end up reading them are the handful of posters of that thread. In the feedback I’ve received, site traffic on a thread actually goes up when a solid discussion is occurring (granted it also goes up during soap-opera-like mudslinging fights, but for the wrong reasons). I for one cheer the work Percy and the other admins have done with this site, even if I don’t always agree with their judgement calls.
After you get a good dose of the countless unmoderated forums on the Origins debate plastered all over the internet, I suspect you might return.
Fred

Humanity threw off the yoke of religious oppression? You could have fooled me.
As far as science is concerned, it has been relatively unhindered by religion since Galileo's run-in with the Pope. However, religion occasionally tries to interfer like in the Scopes trial. Even recently there has been some flack from the fundies regarding stem cell research and cloning but I would consider these moral issues rather than religious. Fortunately morals can exist without religion.
As for other aspects of life you are correct. We still have a long way to go before we can put doctrine and dogma behind us.
