Re: Obviously not Christian, but....
Yaro, there may be migrant camps with an illegal form of virtual slavery, but most poor American citizens do have electricity and plumbing and TVs.
I suspect what you ran across were more migrant worker camps which were probably illegal, not up to code and probably using compulsory tactics with groups of people that have little way to appeal it.

Re: Obviously not Christian, but....
Well, I don't know about the legal status of the towns. But some of the towns were simply poor suthern towns with REAL americans in them.
I agree that many people below the poverty line have it better in this country than in others, I'm just pointing out that there are still places in the US that are right out of the 3rd world.

Proof?
He was called before the committee, they asked him "Are you the source?" He said he was not.
Additionally, Clinton fudged about an improper but not illegal relationship.
Karl Rove committed TREASON

Where is Pat Robertson?
I could have sworn this thread was about Pat Robertson. Why are we discussing migrant laborors and Karl Rove?

Re: Go without health care?
We've all been in emergency rooms, waiting for hours on end with real emergencies to be treated, while the staff deals with indigents with rashes & head colds. What I meant was no one goes without healthcare in America. I didn't say this was they best way to treat them. The post I was responding to stated that there were millions who had no healthcare, & that is just not so.

Right, they are indegents so their lives are less valued.

Re: Obviously not Christian, but....
The wealthiest 1% controls 1/3 of the wealth. That leaves 2/3, TWICE THE AMOUNT OF THE RICH, controlled by the rest of us. Can't you understand the article you posted????? I am correct, the middle class controls the vast amount of wealth in this country, & has for the century & a half, it is not a recent phenomenom.

Re: Go without health care?
Why do you think their lives are less valued because they're indigents? That's a very uncaring, nasty way to look at people more unfortunate than yourself. They have nowhere else to go for medical treatement if their community has no "free clinic." That doesn't mean they are any less valuable as human beings. What's the matter with you?

Re: Where is Pat Robertson?
I guess his apology & retraction have been accepted. For me, I still think he should step down. Anyone callous enough to use such highly inflammatory rhetoric on the airwaves with a following as large as his has a duty & responsibility to maintain a certain level of decorum. He's lost it & he should go.

Re: Obviously not Christian, but....
No, they have absolutely no legitimacy when they strap bombs on their own 12 & 13 year old boys & blow them to smithereens murdering innocent Israeli children, women & men in the process. They're a vile, disgusting group of evil doers just like al Qaeda & should be dealt with in the same manner as we're dealing with them.

Re: Go without health care?
I interpreted your statement as suggesting that indigents were the major problem in the ER. I was mearly pointing out that they have just as much a right as you do to be there.
Maybe I missunderstood your statement as it seems you and I agree.

What about the isrealy bulldozers that show up overnight in a palestinian neighborhood and levels the place to make room for new settlements?
ABE: I don't support terrorsit actions from either side. But I think people should realize that the palestinians aren't all a bunch of madmen.

Re: Obviously not Christian, but....
Let's hit the breaks again. How did these "idle" people get the money to invest in stocks I wonder?
You're right. I remember all those years of hard labor Paris Hilton put in to get to where she is now. Back breaking work being the offspring of the super rich. She's a paradigm for honest American labor.
...the top 5% are paying more than 50% of income taxes.
Clearly, you've lost your mind. Yes, the insanely rich pay more both numerically and as a percentage than the bottomed out poor. And the Right is doing EVERYTHING in it's power to change that equation. The Estate tax (or as it's better known - the Dynasty Tax) is under attack by the Right wing as unfair.
It's so hard for those poor poor children of the super rich to get only 30 million dollars inheritance instead of 50 million. How will they feed their families?!
Meanwhile, people earning 20,000 are paying a large portion of their income in taxes. Not income tax, but taxes on gas, liquor, sales tax, social security, cigarettes... They are getting clobbered, but by all means, let's only look at how unfair it is that gazillionaires should pay taxes at all.
