What kind of installation?
Did you not feel the energy they were singing with? Could you not tell that they were doing it for God?
Thanks for the comments.

Re: Touched
I agree with you on the white bread of music. Some of it is starting to get really good, and even making MTV. i.e. Switchfoot.
Watch for a band named Pillar also.
All that bland music takes on a whole new meaning once you get saved, it did for me. Because then you are singing it with purpose. It is also supposed to be simple, most of the time, so everyone can join in, like row row row your boat.
I agree with you on gospel too, I was I had enough soul to do it. We do some, but its not quite the same.
As far as white people showing emotion, I agree with you also, but there are many who can. I think thats why when our team does a song, it usually sounds better than the person who did it, to me and many others. But thats coming from a bunch of God loving Christians,

That implies that it would take music, and more to change thier mind.
No, it implies exactly what it says - music is insufficient to change the mind of an atheist.

I,too am atheist and I still recall with delight one christmas eve out in the countryside in my hometown, when you could still see the stars vividly at night, the Charlie Brown Christmas show playing on tv and staring at the night sky while the song Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.I was struck by the harmony of the voices and the simplicity of the music. To this day I thouroughly enjoy the spirit of the song despite not agreeing to the message.
I find it strikes a cord in me equal to the rising crescendo of bagpipes in Paul McArtney's song Mull of Kintyre which is among my favorite of all time.

Wow, we are saying the same thing, but you feel a need to argue about it. I think you should have that checked.

To me, that represents a taste of God's love for you.
There is spirit in the music.

Re: Touched
riVeRrat
I do not know if that is the case since I personally think the most 'spiritual' song I have heard is "Imagine" by John Lennon. I remember the day he died the DJ on the local Vancouver radio station was nearly in tears as he relayed the message and said that he felt this song summed it all up,after which he played this song.
Imagine
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...
Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.
Unfortunately it seems the world never deigned to join.Pity.

Was the dudeguy rich?
Did he have possesions - or just imagine not having them?
I mean - it sounds like a perfect concept but Pink Floyd kicks ass. "Jesus, Jesus what's it all about, trying to clout these little ingrates into shape "

better than the ten commandents
sidelined,
I personally think the most 'spiritual' song I have heard is "Imagine" by John Lennon.
I could not agree more - it stops me in my tracks and makes me want to cry nearly everytime I hear it. (Sometimes I have to skip "Imagine" when I'm listening to a Lennon album to avoid falling into deep introspection at the expense of my daily life).
The interesting thing is that many consider "Imagine" to be blasphemy (too "humanist"), and many radio stations have banned its airplay at various times, including immediately after the 9/11 attacks.
In reality, I think it is the kind of song that could bring the world together and prevent intergroup animosity.
I think someone living their life in the spirit of that song would be a very good Christian indeed, minus the whole Christ part...
Thanks for bringing it up.

Not possesions in material wealth per se but in material wealth that you make the be all do all of your existence. That people are have or have not is not what causes the problems of war and distrust among people. It is the madness of chasing after those things that you think will make a difference but seldom do.
Certainly Lennon was succesful in his choice of profession but that is a result of the systems in place that allow an artist of his talent to make enormous amounts of money because he can sell huge amounts of his product in a short time.

Re: Touched
Some of it is starting to get really good, and even making MTV.
'Good' music doesn't get played on MTV, only manufactured product.
Also, to add to the general discussion:
I think some churches, either out of ego, or to attract new people, build expensive churches with expensive sound systems complete with video, lasers, etc.
I visited one such church - it was one of the most disgusting experiences of life. No one should spend more than $200,000 in tithes and offerings on a sound system when people are starving and homeless only a block or two away. Then again, I don't think homeless people would be allowed anywhere near that church, or near the neighborhoods of the churchgoers...
Everyone in the church seemed to be showing an inordinate amount of pride about the expense of their sound system, though. The cost was even in the church bulletin, which is how I found out.
Needless to say, I didn't put any money in the collection plate.

I'm just sitting here ,watching the wheels go round and round.
I really love to watch them roll.
No longer riding on the merry go round
I just had to let it go.
Just got to let it roll sometimes bro'.

Re: Touched
I loved that song growing up.
Now I agree with it, expect for the no heaven part. I imagine its was his fustration of life that he was singing about, and he was imagining that all the troubles of this world didn't really exist, and we could all get along. Not really that much different than what Jesus wants for us. Man just keeps getting in the way though.
We wouldn't need a hell if everyone was good.
We wouldn't need religion either if everyuone could agree, or if God poped his head through the clouds and said boo!
I just thought of something, he said imagine theres no heaven, that could be taken as he believed in heaven, but was trying to imagine life without one. It was all to complicated in his mind
