I'd have to take a second to recall who Hovind is.
I'm more of a mini-Kant if I would use such trivial terminology.
Do you know who that is?

He is someone that you are going to end up like.
I'm more of a mini-Kant if I would use such trivial terminology.
A mini Kant?????
More like a silly kant.
Jesus, you have brightened up my day, that was so funny.
Do you know who that is?
Sure.
I also know enough about him to know that he would have never said anything as silly as:
The thought that some believe that atheism is on a sort of higher plane of thinking is sickening.
Not suggesting I loathe it, just that it doesn't take much thought.
He took time to think about what he was actually saying.
Mini Kant, lol dear God in heaven.
I need to lie down, my sides have just split.

You originally posted regarding muslims having their religion attacked.
Not quite.
I asked if we could think of any reason that moslems might feel like their religion was under attack.
quote:
Islam is being attacked, or it isn't.
Some muslims feel that their religion is being attacked whether it is or isn't in my or your judgement.
As much as I agree with you, and I do, that's not how some muslims view things. To some muslims, to attack a muslim government or muslim state is to attack the muslim religion.
quote:
They are wrong, then, & that's their bad, no-one elses.
Look, let me put it this way.
We (completely justifiably) invaded Afghanistan which was a Islamic theocracy and continue to engage the Taliban.
We invaded Iraq, another largely Islamic country, and not a single one of the administration's stated pre-war reasons for going to war there have been supported by facts.
We supported and endorsed Israel's attack of Lebanon, to the point of refusing to call for a cease fire when the rest of the international community was pleading for one.
We are making all sorts of threatening sabre-rattling sounds towards Iran wrt their nuclear ambitions.
And, George Bush and many republican members of congress and his cabinet make no secret of their devout Chritianity and Bush in particular told us that he believes that God guides his decisions.
If I was a muslim living in the middle east, especially if I only had limited access to media, I might start to think that the US government likes Jews and Christians and isn't particularly fond of muslims.
I'm not saying that their reasoning isn't flawed.
I'm just saying that, given their situation, I can understand some paranoia on their part.

single (I promise) OT post
Just wwanted you to know, holmes, that I think you are getting along famously in this thread.
Don't know why, (and I've tried hard to make sure it's not my own bias) but I see nothing of what I have complained to you about in the posts you've made in this thread.

The nutty God squads have ruined the planet for us normal people.
Ok, so you don't BELIEVE God exists, and you are blaming religion for everything, but really, if religion didn't exist at all, you think things would be any different? Tha is why I said look at the animal kingdom. We have pretty good reason to think that animals are not religious, yet they still fight each other, sometimes just for territory, or a piece of ass.
Or maybe the bible prophecies are true, and the world will end just like you suspect it will.
I think you are unrighteous in blaming religion for anything. IT's people, people, people, not religion or anything else.
If your going to blame religion, then you might as well blame atheism also, I am sure there are atheists somewhere in the world that love to harm others, all NOT in the name of God.

Actually, if you look at the world as a whole and the entire history of the human race, you will see that the atheists like you and I are the abnormal ones. The rest of the world have believed in everything from the worm gods to the alien gods to the non-existant gods.
Yea, but when was the last time you used atheism as an exuse to start a war?

We have pretty good reason to think that animals are not religious
well, that does it. i guess we can safely say that yes, humans are not religious--thus it is the God squads and the nutcases belonging them that have ruined the world for us (for surely, if animals aren't religious, that makes atheists normal, and those who believe in God are abnormal)(don't you just hate that?)
one final note--humans are, in fact, animals.

ask those who started the "war on christmas". specifically, ask why those christians who started the revenge war to put christ back in christmas--it's the atheist liberals (or whoever else was atheist or materialist) who've removed christ from christmas and made it into a material holiday. They used atheism (or rather, the supposed takeover of atheism in the public) to justify what the called a "war on christmas".
Don't you just love our country? all manner of stupidity can be found here, huh?

Yes humans are animals, but you get the picture, as I started with the thought of the animal kingdom, it is plainly obvious that I am talking about animals other than human.
I said animals are not religious, but I did not say they didn't believe in God. We have no way of reading their minds.

Then I was right, it's not religion that is to blame, it's just people.

Of course, it's simply the corporation that the Wal-Mart-shopping middle- and lower-middle-class Christian Republicans who lapped up the advertizing, did their capitalist duty and made Christimas the non-sacred, unreligious commercial holiday that it is today.
It's CHRISTIANS who celebrate it most energetically, for Christ's sake! Its THEIR frigging holiday!
How on earth could the very small minority of non-Christians in the US, many of whom are members of other faiths and so do not celebrate Christmas at all, not even in a secular way, have waged a "war on Christmas"?
No, Christians need to point the finger squarely at themselves if they want to blame anybody for the commercialization of one of their own frigging holidays.
Sheesh!
