The World Community Grid has just added a new project.
World Community Grid and researchers supported by Decrypthon, a partnership between AFM (French Muscular Dystrophy Association), CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) and IBM are investigating protein-protein interactions for 40,000 proteins whose structures are known, with particular focus on those proteins that play a role in neuromuscular diseases. The database of information produced will help researchers design molecules to inhibit or enhance binding of particular macromolecules, hopefully leading to better treatments for muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases.
Muscular Dystrophy is a very personal illness to me since I have a brother who is suffering severely from MDA.
You can read about the project here.
If any of you know someone who suffers from MDA, here is a chance to actually do something that will help. We are making amazing progress against this scourge and others, and this is something we can all do that costs nothing, requires minimal effort and that will hasten the day when MDA like polio is but a memory.
If any of you have considered joining Team EvC but have held back for some reason, please, look at this project and if you can join us, can help, download the BOINC or UD agents.
If you have ANY questions, please ask.

Thanks jar
I lost a cousin (and my chronologically closest relative) to MD, so I'll be joining the fight.

Re: Thanks jar
MDA is something horrific to see but we are so close to being able to do something about it.
Thanks for helping out. It really is appreciated.

New Year Resolution?
Technically everyone who is signed up for World Community Grid is participating unless they have restricted their agent to a specific program.
Thus we are signed up to find solutions to:
  • Muscular Dystrophy (Launched December 19, 2006)
  • Fiocruz Genome Comparison (Launched November 21, 2006)
  • Cancer (Launched July 20, 2006)
  • Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 (Launched June 23, 2006)
  • FightAIDS@Home (Launched November 21, 2005)
Notice that the FightAids is half way through experiment 5 and ready to start experiment 6, having already completed 1a, 1b, 2, 3 and 4, and that results are already helping victims:
http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/
And that the Proteome Folding Project is on phase 2 having already completed phase 1. Phase 2 builds on and refines the results of phase 1.
Also see HIV Cancer Diabetes MDA and more - Solve on your computer for information on how to join.
Something to do for a New Years Resolution eh?

My wife and I have decided to have both our computers on the grid. Thanks for making me aware of this, I think its a great idea and I hope to get more people I know to also subscribe.

Thank You very much.
Fantastic. Once you down load the application please consider joining Team EvC. You can assign both machines to the same account by the way.

Re: Thank You very much.
I am not familiar with the setup. I would be glad to join Team EvC, does this come into effect after I have joined?

Re: Thank You very much.
There are a couple ways to participate. One is the application from United Devices which you can download at World Community Grid.
The other is the BOINC Agent that seems a little faster and can be downloaded here.
Once you have joined and get your agent downloaded you can join Team EvC here.

Thank you both
Shall I log you two as Biblical Christians? Perhaps honorary Biblical Christians?
