Hey, nice to meet ya, this is my first post and it looks like a pretty interesting place here.
As far as beliefs and theories go, I'm an apathist. I mean, I don't care, I care only about right here, right now.
Always found the idea of a God Odd, but its proven that belief in a higher power aids longevity. So I believe in chaos magic and the fact that we can adopt a temporary belief system to suit our needs of the time by way of meditation. And obviously longevity sounds preferable to dying anytime early, and because I'm such a fence sitter I talked myself into a belief in a higher power that doesn't care what happens, how it happened or what people think about what happened. A great big apathist in the sky, or a keen observer.
I believe in pre-forged patterns through life, and can tell when I'm out of whack with the natural course of things by the way being out of whack makes me feel, and that's as technically as I can explain it. Or - if things aren't lining up, near and far alike, everything 'feels' wrong. I'm sure there'll be an explanation at some point in the future, the same way they're going to tell us that yes, thoughts are tangible floating things to be plucked from the air by anyone in the vicinity as happens daily and makes some of the more successful psychics rich. (And makes people believe they're plucking dead relatives names' from ghosts rather than their own heads and the tangible thought cloud spilling out of our ears.)
Anyway, I could talk a glass eye to sleep but I won't bore you any further, just wanted to say hello!

Who decided to put an S in Lisp?

Welcome to the forum and I hope you are willing to back up this statement with evidence showing how this conclusion was obtained.
Always found the idea of a God Odd, but its proven that belief in a higher power aids longevity.
Please cite the study done that shows the experimental evidence and the data obtained that allowed this conclusion.
Hope you enjoy your time here and that we can talk again

You paddle your kayak up the river from your camp to fetch your camera which you left on a rock upstream a bit. The river flows at a uniform 2 mi/hr. You paddle (on still water) at a uniform 3 mi/hr. It takes 30 minutes to reach your camera. If you paddle all the way back to your camp, how long will the return trip take?

Egg on yer face
Hey Sidelined, nice to meet ya in the virtuallest sense of the word!
I've just scoured every single page on the WWW, all eighty billion of them looking for the places I went when I found this, and lo and behold, somebody stole 'em.
No, seriously, a few months ago I was having meltdowns and found this statement in numerous stress management places, however when you surf, you barely ever keep track of where it was, so I have to concede that when I said 'proven' I really meant 'said' and I took someone else's word for it.
Shame on me!
However, it's known in any walk of life that if you aren't ultimately responsible when the shithouse goes up in flames, then the boss is the one going grey, worrying himself to death and signing out early, not you.
I mean, how exactly do you 'prove' you wouldn't have died at that time anyway? lol, my bad.

Fair enough, you had the integrity to see the difference between a claim and a supported statement. You also showed that you took the time to think out the obvious weakness in the claim.
Again, welcome to our virtual club filled with a wide variety of players and,as in life, there are many different versions of animal on these streets.I think you will enjoy yourself immensely since I get the impression that you do not take yourself so seriously that you miss the fun of learning that is at the heart of these debates.
Have fun and remember DNFTT.LOL
